I like Mettenberger. Had a poor first half after a very good first 7 games

but one thing that continues to amaze me is his disturbing lack of mobility. The 16 yd loss on the sack was pitiful. I don't expect him to be Cam Newton or Johnny Football or running the option like some Oklahoma QB in the 1970's. But its almost like the guy either can't or won't run.
Is there more to this story? Has he basically been told "don't run" or his there a lingering injury? Blows my mind how a guy that big and strong just stands around like a bump on a log when the WRs are covered.

he does ok with the wheels he has. he progresses through his reads more and more now.
he played on an unreal level for the first half of season and that kind of play just can't be sustained all season. players will have bad game and its up to the teammates and coaches to pick him up. O line couldn't pass block in 1st half.
when he got clicking it was too little too late and D really let him down. he played his part in team loss.

He had a very good five games. He's been very pedestrian the last 3 games... and even terrible at times.

It took one fricking bad half for morons on here to say Jennings should just go ahead and start the rest of the year.

He was almost perfect at Miss St
He wasn't trying to be anything special against Florida
He had a bad 1st half against Miss St

He can't run. Statue in the pocket. When LSU's massive OLine fails to protect hin it's a sure sack. Cam Cameron I'm sure has taught him to get rid of the ball fast. He did it early in the season throwing away passes against TCU. And he played faster with more urgency early in the season. Dropping back quicker and everything. Now it's as if he's forgotten everything Cameron taught him. As of late though he's started to revert back to the old Mettenberg.

yep. JR and Flynn had games like this, yet the defense held and we came back and won.
Mett bounced back and the D let him down

First Five Games:
82-128 (64%), 1 INT, 13 TD's, 1398 yds, 8 sacks
(Averages: 16-25, 0.2 INT, 2.6 TD, 280 yds, 1.6 sacks
Last Three Games:
53-79 (67%), 4 INT, 3 TD's, 766 yds, 6 sacks
(Averages: 18-27, 1.33 INT, 1 TD, 255 yds, 2 sacks)
The turnovers are the killer. I don't care as much about the TDs as long as we are scoring. We scored 10 TD's on the ground in those three games.

Mett had a bad game, unfortunately our D was not able to bail him out.
sucks but I still think he is a great tiger.
the idiots calling for Jennings

some of you have a difficult time with reading comprehension. If anyone is implying I'm stating Jennings should start, well you are really stupid.
All I'm asking about his Mettenberger's inability and almost refusal to run with the football.

when JJ was here, fans would've sacrificed baby kittens for a pure dropback passer like Mett.
now that we have one, we can't harp on the lack of mobility. his footwork was terrible last yr. but its improved this year. his pocket awareness was terrible last yr and it improved this yr.
he's in the same mold as flacco, p manning, and all those other tall barely mobile pocket passers. the problem this year has been mostly with pass protection.
mett even scrambled for some first downs early in season. his pocket is collapsing more now though and more than not he's making good decisions when under pressure. all 3 of his picks saturday he had a good pocket.

Mettenberger can NEVER try to escape out of the back of the pocket. It's a very bad habit that he has done a pretty good job with this year. He has to step up into or through the pocket...or just eat it.
When he tries to escape backwards, he loses that kind of yardage.
He had a really bad game this week. Even if you ignore the interceptions, you could tell he wasn't confident throwing the ball downfield. He was trying to guide it and as a result underthrew it probably 5+ times. Add in his breakdowns in the pocket, and it just was a poor performance.
It's a shame, because he's played very well this year.

He had an off day and for the one time that he needed it, the defense could not bail him out.

for all the huffing and puffing going on, this sentence is pretty much what happened saturday. plain and simple.

and when he had the game of his career the defense still couldn't.

You left out the drive killing fumble vs UF. Dude is just immobile which some don't seem to consider when grasping at his draft stock. Regardless, at the end of the UF game it was obvious one of his lower legs was causing him a lot of discomfort to the point of standing on one leg, could have played a role in Saturday's bad outing.
