I bought the Wii U for the fam.

Got the Zelda Bundle with two extra controllers and The Luigi game.

Redeem the code in the box in the Nintendo store. Plug in the game pad now and reduce the brightness to save yourself some battery life. I'm not impressed with the battery

Yep! There aren't any features behind a paywall too. While there isn't a bunch of the store, you'll find some older Nintendo games on there to play as well.

Any trick you can do that will increase battery life. Do it. It does not last very long.

hit the home button and a button to the right should say current downloads or something. also check to see if you have a new icon on your home screen

sounds simple but make sure it's plugged in. if that doesn't work go to the wii u settings. think there's an option for the bar

Wii U plays Wii games. Wii U has the new Nintendo eShop which is much better than the old VC (except for the fact that they re basically rereleasing everything on a slow schedule, kind of mad at that one). The gamepad is unique and allows for a lot of cool connections and ways to play.
HD Wind Waker is awesome + All the new stuff coming out, new 3D Mario, DK, Kart, SSB, etc. Other than sports games (and NBA 2k13 is actually solid, sadly) it has a decent selection that will hopefully grow once the console sells a bit more.
It's a Nintendo console through and through, if you like Nintendo, it's worth it.
