Hear the unrealistic fans thing thrown out a lot. What are realistic expectations for the modern LSU program? The athletic admins have gone in record as saying it is not about winning championships but about being in the hunt for them. Is this the realistic expectation?? As long as we are not mathematically eliminated from Atlanta by November does that meet the goal?? We were in the hunt? Just curious if that stated goal is what everyone on here accepts.

Sure sounds like it to me. Content with just being mathematically alive by the end of October and everything is great.

8 wins, and a chick fil a bowl appearance every year. But we should be thankful because we were awful 15 years ago. God bless les miles.

I think moving forward, a very realistic expectation each year would be to finish between 3-4 in the west with a middle tier bowl game.

It seems like that would satisfy most fans.

BAMA will have a new QB next year and no doubt lose others and a coach or two, maybe to a high profile job. Will they be expected to go 8-4 by their fans?

To win the SEC every 3-5 years.

That would be winning a Championship. Alleva said that is not the goal. Are you happy with just being in the hunt??

First you have to be in the hunt to win championships so the hand wringing about that statement was ludicrous

But at this point this team isn't going to contend for championships.

Being in the hunt means controlling your own destiny. Which this team blew.

So this season in that respect is disappointing. Now could some magical fairy spread dust and this team somehow gets to Atlanta? Yes but in reality it's not happening.

Now that doesn't mean you fire coaches and shite but it means you evaluate and try and improve the program

Which I'm sure the administration will do without any assistance from folks on a message board

They'll probably be contending for 3rd or 4th place in the west every year, shortly.

But we went into mid October controlling our own destiny. Why does that not count? And doesn't every team start the season in the hunt?? When are you not in the hunt?

Mid October doesn't count for LSU. The team itself has higher expectations

No realistically about 12-15 teams nationally can say they are in the hunt, with a possible outlier occasionally ( see Baylor unless they falter).

Your not in the hunt when your chances on winning 1. A SEC championship depends on multiple losses and 2. A national championship in pretty much every year with 2 losses

So in Allevas eyes did Miles meet his expectations and stated goals last and this year?

Alleva will probably give Miles a pay raise and contract extension.

Realistic expectations....

To see the team improve as the season goes on. To strive to play to the best of your ability on a consistent basis regardless of opponent.

Exactly. Have the team ready to play and react and adapt to what the opponent is doing. The coaching staff failed on both accounts last night.

Last year yes. They were in the hunt for both championships till the Bama game. Way it is.

This year unless something changes (other teams miraculously losing) then no
