2014 Basketball Recruiting Official Fap Thread

2014 Committed Players
Jalyn Patterson 6'1 (175) Alpharetta, GA (Montverde Academy, FL)
Transferred to one of the premier basketball prep programs in the country. Is a very reliable mid-range shooter, and a very good true PG. Given one year to hopefully back up Hickey he could be a very good and reliable PG. He has underestimated athleticism, very quick and crafty, and he keeps the ball on a constant string.
Concensus 3* on every site but is sure to jump up with a good year at Montverde.
AAU: Atlanta Celtics
Jalyn Patterson
Aaron Epps 6'9 (215) Tullos, LA (Tioga HS)
Not a heavily recruited player early on due mostly to his limited exposure at Tioga High, but came on late due to an outstanding summer circuit.
Athletic and versatile, Epps fits the mold of a CJJ recruit. He is long, athletic, runs the floor well, and for his size can handle the ball if need be and stretch the defense in certain situations, while having the defensive versatility to guard multiple positions.
Offers: Memphis, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, and La Tech.
Elbert Robinson 7'1 (320) Garland, TX (Lakeview Centennial)
The first thing that comes to mind is overpowering. Robinson uses his size and athleticism to bully other players and create his offense. Even though he is a big body at 7'0 300+, he is a good shot blocker and has good outside touch. He is able to bury other post players inside then go to his left hook which is his best shot. He also keeps the ball up which is very important for a big man.
4* on every site (Top 60 Concensus Player)
Top 3: LSU, Georgetown, and Ohio State
Elbert Robinson
CJJ and staff have seemingly assembled another awesome and diverse class, that fills multiple needs and brings different types of players to an already extremely versatile LSU team.
The Blue Chipper: There is no question Robinson is the best and most highly touted recruit in this class. His sheer size gives LSU another weapon. Where Odo and Malone are more long, lanky, shot blocking centers, there is no question Robinson is the space eater that was needed. But what is so impressive about Robinson is that he has very good feet and hands for a big guy his size, and has nice touch from 14-16 feet.
The LA Talent: Aaron Epps until recently was a relatively unknown on the national stage, but after an impressive summer he exploded. He can shoot the mid-range jumper, runs the floor extremely well, and is a terror on the offensive glass. He adds to the bigs that can run and guard multiple positions, very undervalued and will be a good player in CJJ "system".
The Building Block: I use the term building block for Jalyn Patterson because that's exactly what he could become, a true PG that CJJ can rely upon to orchestrate the "system". He is very athletic IMO, and is a very good ballhandler. One year in a college weight training, and to gain experience behind guys like Hickey, Quarterman, and Hornsby, and this year at Montverde, he could very well be the steal of this class.
CJJ and staff may have done as well as anybody in the country in recruiting, including Coach Cal or any of the other powerhouses. You have to look at what he had to work with and where the program was at when he took over.
Coach Jones loses Coach Kirby to Memphis his home, but replaces him with an equally important recruiter in Korey McCray who basically is the Godfather of GA Elite basketball. Coach Patrick has brought his connections from Australia to be in the mix or get guys like Darcy Malone, Dante Exum, Jonah Bolden, or Ben Simmons.
While the 2013-2014 season has not started yet, it is never too early to look ahead at a very tentative depth chart.
2014
PG: Hickey 5’11 (SR) Patterson 6’1 (FR)
SG: Hornsby 6’4 (JR) Quarterman (SO) Morgan 6’4 (JR)
SF: Martin 6’8 (SO) Hammink 6’7 (JR) Bridgewater 6’6 (SO)
PF: O’Bryant (JR) Mickey (SO) Epps 6’9 (FR)
C: Odo 6’11 (SR) Robinson 7’1 (FR) Malone 7’0 (SO)
I know there are 14 so somebody would have to leave or somebody go walk-on. This is not at all indicative of what would the lineup look like or how minutes would go as multiple guys can play multiple positions Mickey at SF, Quarterman at PG, etc…. Just unbelievable what CJJ has assembled thus far and the new attitude.
Then there is always 2015……..

Love what you did here but let me clue yah in a little bit.
1) Jarell is looking more and more like a one and done. And JOB will likely be gone as well.
2) Tim Quarterman is a PG (they'd play Patterson off ball before Tim off ball).
3) Darcy > Odo
4) Bridge/Hammink are likely to be processed.
2014:
PG: Hickey - Quarterman - Patterson
SG: Hornsby - Morgan
SF: ????
PF: Mickey - Malone - Epps
C: Robinson - Odo
Just a heads up.
Great work though!

Meh, he had some talent. It just needed better coaching.

Is that an official offer list for Epps? If so that is impresssive.. and hes a real diamond in the rough.

How many scholarship players did he inherit?

IMO, if Jarell is a one and done that means great things for THIS years team. I think he'll be a 2 year player.
JOB will definitely be gone.

There was no size. A tuba player had to play center and an above average 3 played at the 4. Don't be that dismissive, the guy has done a great job at pointing the program in the right direction.

I love the class we've put together so far and I'm very excited for the upcoming season, but I wish the word FAP would die on this website

Explain to me why you think this? Just because you "feel" like it? We'd cut two solid players and have no SF depth, just because? Hammink's offensive game leads a ton to be desired, but reports out of camp is he may be our best on ball defender on the team. And Bridgewater may not ever make it on the floor if he never gets cleared, but he's a heck of a player. He's a tweener for sure, but the only way he isn't on this team is if he doesn't get cleared.

The main reason for the 2014 "depth chart" thing was merely to show the talent assembled. Nobody has ever seen Darcy and Odo play in a real college yet, and Martin is not a sure one and done either, although I do expect him to have the kind of year emost people expect. Odo is our best interior defender, and Coach Patrick was quoted as saying he may be the best athlete on the team. I love Malone's game and think it just brings another added dimension, as with Robinson he could be a true Euro stretch PF. Quarterman can certainly handle the point but nobody knows. Just happy to point out what an outstanding job CJJ and staff have done.

One last thing to put into perspective which I think says it all in the last month CJJ and the LSU basketball program has won recruiting battles over:
Kentucky
Oklahoma State
Memphis
Ohio State
Duke
North Carolina
Georgetown
Georgia Tech

This gets me so excited...have we ever had a stretch 4? I cannot think of one.

Not looking at his NBA career which has been bad, Randolph comes to mind in recent memory.

I've heard Hornsby, as well
Posted on 10/16/13 at 7:48 pm to lsusteve1
Hornsby's athleticism at the bayou madness was shocking to say the least
Posted on 10/16/13 at 8:17 pm to LSUButt
We won't see Hornsby play until next yr which sucks!

i doubt a legacy like hammink would ever be 'processed'
perhaps he would leave on his own accord to pursue a pro career in europe early, but even then i think he's here for the long haul.

I have no ideal how some of you can overlook a kid like Robinson. Sayin these forwards like Odo is a better interior defender and all that. This Robinson kid could develop into a lottery pick. Size like that doesn't come around often. And the kid moves real well for someone that big.

E-Rob not a lottery pick, I think he will play in the league though. He has minimal athleticism with great size and decent skill. Will be nice in college.
