So that he could have access to instant replay and be "in" the officials huddle and provide some sane, factual input when they are deciding whether to enforce a penalty or not.

The officials already huddle and talk about penalties, what's the harm in having a guy who actually knows wtf happened?

Oh, but yeah, let's go ahead and rush a game. Save those 10 minutes because who gives a damn whether the better team won.

This. Forget the refs. Saints had multiple chances to put this game away under the three-minute mark and failed to do so.

I'm not suggesting making them reviewable. I'm saying give the officials access to information before they make a call.

But since you brought it up, why the frick aren't penalties reviewable?

It's hard get a first down running the ball when the other team knows you're going to run it. And if they had converted the third down passing, Payton would be called a genius. The refs were as big if not a bigger factor than the saints' inadequecies. It's really pathetic. It's next to impossible to beat a good team on the road when the refs completely blow multiple big calls in favor of the home team and give the home team the benefit of the doubt on every borderline call.

Which is why they should have tried some playaction on first and second downs.

It would be a PR disaster.

Could you imagine Brees throwing a 60 yard TD, then after a commercial a ref telling us it's not a TD but a holding call. Naw no way would I approve that if I was Goodell.

There's no good reason it shouldn't be reviewable. Even the most ardent patriots fan could take one look at the replay of that BS false start and know it was encroachment. Not blaming the loss completely on the refs, but they were a major factor in the outcome of the game.

Oh Jesus.

I'm not saying review every play and have the dude in the booth call them.

In saying when a flag is thrown on the field, let someone with access to replay have some input.

Because Goodell told them who was going to win the game.

Just another one of the many frick ups by the officiating crew.

1. Play clock was on 0 when Brees tried to call timeout
2. Delay of game wasn't called
3. Timeout wasn't granted when half the refs on the field had to be looking right at Brees

This officiating crew was sleepwalking today.
