That would have been roughing the passer even without the rule imo

and if the player gets to stay in the game, the penalty shouldn't be enforced.

not every time anyway.

I dont get how Manziel was "defenseless" anyway, he had just released the ball .005 seconds before the hit

How long before a blindside sack becomes illegal?

It's just as stupid as "zero tolerance" rules...it removes all critical thinking and judgement

The refs have to throw the flag on anything that looks like a "hard hit". Either make the call or don't, but the fact that the penalty flag is basically automatic is such a dumb rule

You are taking away the actual "refereeing" of a fricking ref
