You don't want a shot. We have to have a full guild and some hefty might before we give it another shot. I think we have 20 out of 35 now.

TH has to be lvl 9 or 10 it seems, your might determines the people you battle and who you duel, your night increases as you lvl buildings and troops.

Use gems or the "star" In the top left. They are called HB and build a hero alter, enter it, purchase heros with those 2 or shards you occasionally find raiding dungeons

Are you playing on iOS or android? Android allows you to get free gems by downloading and running various apps and then deleting them. iOS doesn't allow this feature but CC is good about giving out free gems during maintenance
