So I've decided I'm going to take the plunge. Just missed out on a Native Ultimate for 600 bucks. Keeping my eyes open btw LA sportsman and Craigslist.

Budget is 1G. I know a lot of you so what y'all have?

Congrats on your great decision.

I have a Wilderness Systems Commander 120 and love it (very similar to the Ultimate)

With a budget of 1G your options are great. Where will you be fishing most?

Well trout I sold my boat bc I wasn't using it much plus I can use my dads whenever I want. Living in Houma there is ample kayak fishing opportunities.

Buy a yak now, Jeep in a few months. Ill be good until my wife starts talking about kid number 3.

Gotcha. Im in NWLA so I dont really know the ins and outs of kayak fishing in the marsh/saltwater.

Do you think scupper holes are necessary? I know a few guys who fish Ultimates in the marsh just fine, but I would assume that a SOT boat with scuppers would be ideal?

Beam, Bourgs, and a few others might be more help on the subject. In the mean time, 1K new should put you in most anything besides a new hobie.

12ft vs 14ft? Whats the biggest difference? Is it mainly tracking?

12ft will be plenty for you
i have scupper holes and i don't have them plugged. sometimes i wish i had plugs in other times im happy i dont.
if you're in a yak saltwater fishing you'll likely get a little wet

Don't know what they could be mixed for. Other than being heavy mine is awesome.

I have been told the Natives are great. Stability, tracking, and great for fishing.

Im a little biased towards Wilderness Systems, but Ride115 or Ride135 FTW.

Budget of $1k just for the yak, or with accessories included?
Keep in mind you will need to purchase a PFD and a paddle at a minimum and those are two things you shouldn't skimp on (IMO)

Going new, I would put the Ride (115 or 135), Native Ultimate, Diablo Adios and Jackson Cruise on your short list if stability is what you're concerned with.
For more speed, look at Wilderness Tarpon or Native Manta Ray.
For something different, there is the Jackson Superfishal which is a SUP.

There was a Hobie Outback on craigslist for 1200. Probably the finest fishing kayak out there.
