What about Eric Gordon?
TE: I talked with Eric before training camp and we went out to dinner. We had a long talk and he is very excited. Last year, he was really frustrated because he didn't have any help. Now I'm here, Jrue... We've been in the league for a while, so he's really excited about that. You know, it was a tough situation for him to go through something like that. Everybody wants to win and now here we have that opportunity with the team we have. We just have to play hard and play together.

I am so excited for this season to start! I just hope EG can stay healthy throughout the year.

it's damn true. if you're doing to command that type of money, you should probably realize that it's your job to lead, not ask for assistance.

I am giving EG one more shot. I hope he has matured mentally and is healthy physically. In the NBA you have to have elite talent and he possesses that, when healthy. I think it is obvious that he still had a lot of maturing to do before he was going to be a leader at this level. That is one of the more exciting things about our core group. They are all young veterans who should grow and mature together.

Will he ever be the same player again? A lot of people just seem to brush off the fact that he has battled injuries for the past couple of seasons that used to end careers. Now he has a chronic condition. He might never be the same athlete he was. He'll have to totally re-invent what type of player he is.. I'm not sure if he has that in him..

What injury did he have that has ended careers? He definitely has had one of the more confusing injuries that I can remember, I'll give you that. Whether it be misdiagnosis, shoddy rehab, or lack of an effort on his part, something has not added up. But it seems that he still had a good first step last season and he showed explosiveness at times. He was obviously nowhere near where he needed to be from a conditioning standpoint, but to start games the burst seemed to be there.
I do agree with you that at this point he has shown nothing to say that he would be able to reinvent himself as a player. I am just not ready to say that he is to the point physically where that would be necessary.

I think it's all mental with Gordon. His recent comments about about "not having anyone" around him last season just prove to me he what the real problem was (like I needed proof!).
He had a serious injury, but he had also been quoted as saying multiple times this past spring that his "quickness returned".

There were rumors he had micro fracture damage, but it wasn't extensive enough to demand surgery. Which was why they keep resting it. But he has admitted having arthritis and constant swelling. It was never repaired, so it will keep coming back. He does show flashes, but he was a really explosive guy awhile back. I haven't seen that player in years..

I remember rumors of possibly needing microfracture surgery but then that was refuted. I think those rumors were brought up because no one could figure out why it was taking him so long to return. That is why I said it has been a confusing injury, to say the least. I would say that it was a little of all three reasons that I listed earlier, misdiagnosis, shoddy rehab, and a lack of desire to get back to what he perceived as a bad situation. He did have a knee scope done which would have cleaned out inflammation and arthritis. We will just have to wait and see. No excuses this year, that is part of the excitement.

But he has admitted having arthritis
Link? He's never mentioned arthritis. He just referenced Danny Granger (who doesn't have arthritis) and Andrew Bynum (who does have arthritis) while saying he had some mysterious knee condition like they do.

We'll see what he says when he finally starts playing again, but we haven't heard about the knee in awhile. The last things he actually complained about was the ankle that he had surgery on.

You are right, he said he had the same disorder as both. But I thought both had degenerative conditions, but only Bynum admitted that. This was the best link I could find on Gordon's injury woes (LINK /). Is that the guy 42? Cause that is a great article..

I thought they were holding him out as a precaution cause of the knee (?). They said he might pull a hamstring or something. That seems to more involve concerns about the knee..

Yeah, that's 42

The official reason he wasn't cleared to play until the past week because of recovery from his ankle surgery, not his knee, and the concerns about pulled muscles are due to poor conditioning from that.
quote:
Unlike many of his teammates who voluntarily worked out at the club's practice facility this offseason, playing pickup games and doing conditioning drills, Gordon wasn't able to participate in many of the sessions because he was still recovering from offseason ankle surgery and wasn't cleared until last week.
"Eric is the only guy, as they say, ramping up, getting his conditioning back," Williams said. "He just got his release from the doctors. He is kinda moving towards the type of condition he has to be in. I don't want him to get out there and go full bore and pull a hamstring or something because he hasn't been going as long as the other guys have."
Because Gordon isn't in optimum shape, Williams said it is unlikely Gordon would participate in the first two weeks of preseason games.
..."I wouldn't imagine that he would be able to play in all of them (preseason games) since he is just starting to get into the kind of conditioning necessary," Williams said. "If I had to put a time on it, I would say in another two weeks he would be ready to play in a game.
