I have a ski boat that really can only be used for one thing and i am a big fisherman but i have to either yak or go on boat trips with other people.

So i think i want to start my search for a bay boat so i can get way more use out of owning a boat. I dont need this change immediately so i can wait a few months to a year or so.

I think i want an aluminum hull over glass and something bigger than the normal 18'. I want at least a 20' maybe up to 24' w/ a 150 or 200 maybe 250 if price is good. I want a hull that will do well in chop and be able to make a shoot out to the first set of rigs on a rather calm day.

What prices will I be looking at on the new and used markets?
Any words of advice on what to look for?
Are the custom boats from South LA really better than the mass produced boats in terms of value?
Whatever other advice you can give let me have it.

If you have the money, I would def look custom made. The quality will be much better.

I like where your going with the Aluminum. I also would like to get a CC Aluminum eventually. I have a prodrive right now which is decent at fishing but not very comfortable to fish out of.

Get you a Laguna Tiger bro.
Gonna be my next rig for sure.
21',thick aluminum,inverted vee hull.
A 21' with a Yamaha 115 on a jackplate tops out at 45mph fully loaded.
Try that shite with a glass 20' boat.

Gets up in 1 1/2' of water and floats in 8"

Yea i dont know if i want to go all out and get one designed myself. I think that might cost too much than what i want to pay, but rather scour the used market for one.

There is good deals to be had on used.

Fiberglass will ride better in rougher water but also ages faster. Aluminum will hold up longer. I like aluminum because I feel like even when I hit shite I don't feel like i'm tearing it up where as when Im out in my gf's dad's fiberglass bay boat i'm scared im going to f it up.

it's a beast. I was friends with the late Cat. JLT. He would let me take it out anytime I came down with my family.
Loved that boat. Not real sure how much it costed him but he loved that boat.

No shite. After 20 years in bass boats, I got a bay boat. Not all that heavy, and I can only get 50 mph out of a 150. Damn that sucker is slow.

It's called an inverted hickman hull. Not the same a a tunnel hull.
He had a 24' Triton and the 21' Tiger.
They handled chop about the same.

durability mainly. i dont want to be worried to creep in shallow water and scrape up the gel coat on an oyster bed.

My dad has his first aluminum hull bay boat. Only complaint ive heard is that while fishing in rough water (2-3') it doesnt cut into the waves like the fiberglass did and instead rides over them

115 sure does seem small for a 21' hull.
But 45 mph plus the fuel/weight savings of running a 4 cylinder vs a 6 cylinder just can't be beat.

45 mph is plenty. Plus the fuel mileage you'll get with a 115 vs a 150 is night and day.

and it would be enough hull to cruise out to close rigs on calm days?

cause it does look like a really nice boat.
