I'm not concerned that our highly touted true freshmen are not yet playing on defense. I remember in 2001 that M. Hill and Spears did not play regularly and only gradually played more as the season went on. Also, the 2003 team juggled the secondary until Laron locked down the safety position and T. Daniels moved back to corner. I suspect we'll see the same thing unfold this year - more guys gradually rotating in on the DLine, someone (Beckwith?) gradually playing more time at MLB and maybe Robinson or Jefferson playing more in the secondary. We don't have the elite 2011 defense anymore (too bad some of those guys didn't stay) but it will get better. If it pans out the way I think it will, we'll be deeper and better by the time the A&M and Bama games roll around.

Loston should be our middle LB.

I sincerely think Liston would be a good olb with his quickness and size and physicality I think he fits better at olb than ss. Let mills play safety. IMHO

i've been saying this about loston for a long time. I like mills at corner. We need some safety help though.

Beckwith to DE would be ideal IMO. I'd like to see Beckwith opposite of Allen/Hunter.

I'd also like to see the NCAA get rid of redshirts and just give everyone 5 years of eligibility. The average time to graduate is approaching 5 years anyway. It would alleviate the worry of redshirting a guy. A guy who is on the fence of playing a bit or saving his redshirt could then contribute when deemed necessary without hesitation. Guys who are good enough will leave in 3 anyway and others will leave as soon as they can. I know this seems random, but i'm thinking of guys like thomas that could have played before this year or a freshman like herron or bain to contribute on a limited basis.

I really like your 5-year eligibility (no RS) suggestion. I don't see the reason why the NCAA shouldn't do this. Never really thought of it before but in this age where so many guys go pro early the concept of a red shirt seems anachronistic. I think of the Brockers situation - the RS year was just wasted.

Brockers is a perfect example or Jerald Hawkins.

Loston is too injury prone to play LB. He'd never make it through a full game.

I've always hated the people who start threads about mobing Chad Jones or some other safety to linebacker... but I actually like this idea for once.

Also, to the OP. This is a rebuilding year for our defense. One or two studs who have played before, some role players and some new freshman who will become the core of our next good defense.

White, Beckwith, Robinson and Hunter will be really good players for us, but not next week. And probably not by the end of the year. It will likely take us until next year or so to see the type of defense we are accustomed too. IMHO
