We get zero pressure on the QB. Nearly every running play involved UGA's OL blocking our DL, and then moving on to our LBs. I've never seen an OL get to the use and level so easily. This forced our safeties to make nearly every tackle on every run play. Then it was easy pickings over the top for Murray.

How long has it been since our DL has been this bad? Over 10 years? 15?

kinda reminds me of 09, when Pep started at DE nearly all yr and finished with 0 sacks, and Alem proved that he was more a situational pass rusher than every down DE.

but 09 had a better group of DTs in Woods/ Cheese/ Nevis.

so... 08?

Yeah...this board has it all wrong..I get the bitching about the blown coverages and lackluster secondary and LB play...but it all starts with the line and they got ZERO pressure yesterday. It was pitch and catch for Murray all day long.

I was disappointed in the d-lines play as well. People kept calling them soft all week* and I was defending them..

Time to step it up. Freak nice INT tho!

2008 had RJF and I forget who else. Not great but better than now. The DBs were bad in 2008 as well as getting put in bad situations due to the offense.

Frankly neither line- O or D performed to a top NCAA team level....although the O line gets a much higher grade. D line got the lunch eaten by the GA O line.

08 had plenty of DL talent, but their production didn't show it. they were a massive, and I mean MASSIVE disappointment.

Hunter has started the last two games for Allen...

All 3 DE's show flashes of talent(Rasco, Allen & Hunter)...but none have really stood out...they have to become more consistent

'08 had Tyson, RJF, Woods, Nevis, Pep, Alem, Kirston Pittman, et al - lot of talent and they did ok vs rush, but we were terrible against the pass.

Agree 100%. The O-line couldn't bust a grape, especially in the first half. When you have a QB throwing for over 350 yards, some holes should open up SOMEWHERE for the run game. Almost never happened.

The D-line was pretty much the same. Couldn't pressure on pass plays, couldn't hold their ground on runs. The DEs constantly lost the edge on outside runs and couldn't get past the tackles on passes.

All the trainers have to do with Murray's uniform next week is spray it with Febreze, and he'll be good to go. Worst performance by an LSU D-line that I can remember.

that's what I was thinking. Ego, Freak, Rasco and company have not lived up to the hype so far.

Before yesterday everyone was saying our LBs were the problem. Some also complained about the secondary. I agree those positions need to improve, but if you ask any big-time coach or analyst they will tell you it all starts up front. Check out this stat from the Research Notes section of the ESPN article from yesterday's game:

"One reason why is Georgia controlled the line of scrimmage. It had 148 rushing yards before contact, the most the Tigers have allowed in any game in the last three seasons and 80 more than they allowed per game in their first 4 games this season."

LINK

I saw it watching the game and this proves it; the DL got manhandled by the UGA O-Line. Not only were they beaten, but they allowed the UGA O-Line to get to the second level on the LBs. If Freak has the speed for it, I almost wouldn't mind seeing Ego and Quentin Thomas/Mickey Johnson at DT and replace Rasco with Freak at DE and let Allen/Hunter rotate at the other DE spot. That's only if Freak really has the quickness for DE.

on every single play. It was absurd. IMO, we should experiment with a 5-2 or even a 3-4 and just switch it up. We don't have the personnel to run a 4-3 effectively. Need to do something differently.

I agree, spot on.

Look at the defensive stats from yesterday:

0 sacks, 0 QB hurries, 2 tackles for loss (Kwon & Rasco). Every single play Murray stood back there and surveyed the field for several seconds before throwing to a guy with no DB within ten yards...followed by one of our CBs running after him while throwing his arms in frustration at one of our clueless safeties.

Nice reactive INT by Freak...gotta mention it or someone will get his period.

Both trenches are weak a-- compared to what we should have.
OL has no running game against a weak GA defense and the DL was pathetic.
Physically weak and slow on both sides of the ball.

I don't think the middle of the season is the time to change schemes, that would have to be done during the offseason. Plus, we don't have the personnel for the 3-4. We don't have a huge body to play NT and stuff the middle (although it would be interesting to see if Fehoko could be converted to play NT).

I wouldn't change the scheme, just look at a change in who is playing where. Need our DL to challenge the line of scrimmage more to free up the LBs to attack and make plays.

Play the freshman then at least the youth excuse may have some validity.
