That was raw, and I think you guys may overrate Johhannsen a little. I think he could be our super sub (what we wanted Brek Shea before we learned he did not know how to play soccer).

How can you not be pumped about this kid? He's scoring in bunches.

But the defenses in Eredivisie make LSU's look competent.

People mentioned this fact less when Jozy was scoring buckets.

It is not that I discredit the Dutch league, but I have only seen him play like 15 minutes for the US.

Because most of Jozy's goals weren't coming from mistimed jumps, backpasses or slips.

Jozy's direct runs at goal were more impressive certainly, but I'm not sure why y'all are trying to knock AJ.

Not trying to knock him, just want to be extra careful due to him coming seemingly out of nowhere.

We all knew that Jozy could be awesome because we'd seen glimpses of it before. With Bacon we've got a couple of sub appearances with the US and some goal highlights (which are always a tough gauge of a player's actual quality).

ETA: And now I'm going to try to go to bed. frick our defense.

People were saying the same thing when Jozy was scoring. Eredivisie defense is god awful

And he's only 22 years old. Dude has more potential talent than probably any player currently in our pool, except maybe Jozy. A future pairing of Aron and Jozy up front gives me the hardest of boners.

Based on what (and I'm asking about both statements)?

(FWIW, I have a sneaking suspicion that Johannsson is the real deal.)

I'm just going to stay pumped about him until he gives me a reason not to which he has yet to do. Have I watched a lot of him? No but he's been scoring in bunches and the only other 2 players we've had before him he's done that abroad is Dempsey and Jozy. Not saying he's as good as them but it's really hard not to be excited about how he's been playing.

Mostly the lack of talent at the position he plays. It's not like we have just a ton of striker options at the moment. Jozy, Eddie, Johansson, and that's kinda it. Unless you want to include Dempsey/Donovan in that group.

Right.... but our lack of talent shouldn't influence your opinion of a player that plays that position.

If we see a LB or RB that runs without falling down, it doesn't automatically mean he's the second coming of Phillippe Lahm.

i think AJ should develop into a good option for the USNT on the wing or at ST. i don't think he'll develop past that point

he may get a cup of coffee on a top team at his peak, but he'll likely max out as a solid player for a mid-table team in a major league. nothing wrong with that and i'll take it

he's basically karma for rossi

I prefer positivity wrt young players over freaking the frick out whenever they perform poorly during their first outing (you don't do this. It's directed generally). Johannsson is an interesting prospect with a cool nickname and celebrity doppleganger who came out of nowhere (since everyone thought that he was unavailable). Not a sure thing, at all, but if scoring goals in Holland got fricking Afonso Alves eight caps for Brazil, I don't have a problem with people hyping Johannsson.

His potential was fairly apparent during his 15 minute cameo in Bosnia. Every USA fan should be excited to see this kid suit back up.

But aside from that tiny sample size...he lead the Danish league in scoring as a 20-21 year old. And he's already on pace to break Josmer's goal scoring record.
