Article

Looks like many big time SEC programs are losing students in stadiums (UGA, Bama, etc.).

This isn't news, anybody that's went to a football school knows that attendance is lower for the crap games....UGA's student section will be packed for this game.

Kids are an entitled bunch of arse hats these days. They seriously skip football games that you only get a few weekends a year because they can't use their smartphones for a few hours.

They would be appalled at the bag phone I used to have that couldn't leave your car or the beeper that was my lifeline.

Get off the lawn you sissys and go to the game.

You should read the article, this isn't the only reason. I, for one, understand watching the game on an HDTV at a tailgate while continuing to drink rather than cram into the student section. Does that make me entitled?

It they improved the cell reception in the stadium and sold alcohol, attendance would improve.

Why is it that people can't have fun without consuming alcohol?? I have never once consumed an alcoholic beverage at any sporting event, yet I still manage to not only have a good time, but save tons of money in the process. Y'all should try it some time

Read every bit of it. The first point made by the author was the cell phone business and one girl said she does not go because she can't upload twitter or Instagram. That's ridiculous.

Of course you are entitled if you expect a school to save you a seat for big games but can't be troubled to go to all the games. If the school is having trouble drawing students they should reduce the student tickets levels and try to sell them. If they can't do that then sell them to fans at a reduced price to fans that have been priced out of the stadium. Or do Tate them to charitable groups.

Georgia allots 18,000 student tickets and can't get more then 16,000. I would rather see those 2,000 tickets go to lower economic people who never get to take their kids to a college football game. When I was a kid I decided I wanted to go to college and lsu based off my first experience in Tiger stadium, and it drove me in my education. Maybe the school would be better served reaching out to the future students then the ones that are there and won't go.

Unfortunately, this is a business, not a charity.

It's actually an arm of a publicly funded state university.

I don't go to games because I can't post on the Scoreboard there. Real fans have at least 100 posts on the scoreboard during gametime.

But for real, if you can't put down your cell phone for a few hours everyweek you have some serious issues.

A business that isn't maximizing its profit if the students aren't showing up and buying stuff. Sell those tickets for 10 to 20 bucks a pop and even a poor person will probably buy a coke and some concession items so the school makes profit.

Also if it truly was a pure business, every school would have been selling beer a long time ago because that makes business sense.

Schools with huge stadiums with tons of regular bleacher seating are suffering. Too many tickets are obviously allocated to the student sections. If a school is expanding, the route to go is like what LSU is doing with the south end expansion, suites and club seating. Crappy games against cupcakes are affecting it greatly, also. It's also gotten to be that if a school is not in the NC hunt, the games are meaningless. That mindset was not the case years ago.

Except that our athletic department is not publicly funded.

Notice I said arm.

The arm can't survive without the body.

Based on the amount that the athletic department has been giving back to the cash strapped university, one could argue that's going both ways right now.

I agree that's ridiculous, but that's the way current college aged girls think. They are over stimulated and thus easily bored. Do you want to see more college girls at the games making a lot of noise? Give them access to Instagram and margaritas.
