Really kind of like this dude for the Pound. He's a local kid and of course he's had a pretty good mentor for the first 3 years of his career. He kind of reminds me of Romo. Similar in stature, not real respected in his draft and he's had a few good years of no pressure and time to kind of learn the game. There's also that whole gunslinger/interceptions that come with it thing.

So are any of you Browns fans wanting him to go ahead and keep old man Weeden sitting for the rest of 2013?

And let's take it a HUGE (knee jerk, jumping the gun) step further, and think its possible that he might be the guy, and y'all can use your draft picks to build an offense around him?

Cleveland could be a whole lot worse defensively, so if he injects life into the offense this season, it's possible the Browns aren't as far from being very competitive as a lot of people thought just this time last week.

Anyone buying Hoyer? Or is he just a stop gap due to severe lack of options?

The Browns have him for 2 years. It's really a very ideal situation if he turns out to be special. He's on the ground floor with the new administration.

I'm personally hoping he turns out to be more than a plan B journeyman.

Yeah I don't get it? Are you saying my slight comparison is off? Or just making fun of Romo?

Odds are that he is not the franchise guy that Lombardi thinks he is. But nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong. Would love to be able to spend the picks on big talent at WR and in the secondary. Also, I would not have to spend all of my time worrying that they'll blow any of the their picks on a mediocre QB.

This week will be a good test for Hoyer because Cinci is much better on defense. I'm tired of Weeden sucking arse and I was never a fan of his so in my opinion he can rot on the bench the rest of the year.

Best case scenario.....Hoyer becomes a legit starter and we don't have to spend a pick on a QB next April.

I know man. I bet Nothing sucks more than being a Browns fan and watching them draft a QB. I hope he does work out for you guys and things happen just like you described.

I really want him to succeed. And if y'all beat Cinci this weekend and he has the same or similar performance as last week.... I'm guessing that Weedens "thumb" injury will find a way to flare up again next week.

Yeah. It's pretty miserable, but it could be worse since you kind of expect it every year now.

Unless Hoyer looks completely inept, I don't think we see Weeden again. But I'm excited for the game this weekend. Defense is playing well, and hopefully the offense continues to improve. The team has been a joke for a long time, but the fans are amazing (if also masochistic). Thanks for the support, and I hope you continue to follow the browns.

I always keep an eye on the Brownies. Cleveland is my 2nd home, my wife's family pretty much all live there (and we'll be moving back pretty soon), and as long as they aren't playing the Cowboys I'm pulling hard for them.

And just think, if they win this week, y'all are 2-2, worse case tied with Cinci for 2nd, and best case B-more loses to Buffalo and in a 3 way tie for 1st. Pittsburgh is pitiful, and y'all gave Baltimore hell already. It's very hard to believe how close you guys are and in the thick of this division when it seemed like the towel was being thrown in less than a week ago.

How can you not pull for the Browns right now?

100% agreed. On all of it.

and shite, Hoyer is younger than Weeden in age, but like 3 years ahead mentally/experience wise. This would be perfect in so many ways if this works out. It's almost like that whole Weeden pick is a wash. You still have your starter potentially for several years, and he came pretty cheap. So you can kind of pretend he's the one you drafted.

yea.....but no. Rookie QBs are so difficult to get right and I'm tired of sending out rookies to the slaughter. chances are the jaguars will suck worse and snag teddy and our genius FO will pick JFF

yeah, I know. I kind of left out that 3rd option of losing miserably to Cinci and you're 1-3 (probably tied for last with Pittsburgh) and your only win is shitty Minnesota and this whole thread/conversation is pointless.

But Cleveland is due for something good to happen. Hopefully the Injuns will hang on and get that wild card, and we'll be witnessing the resurrection of the Browns.

I agree. And I know what you mean, Tim Couch wanted to be drafted by the Browns and it ruined his career early for sure.
JFF is not an NFL caliber QB. Too small.

If the football gods loved Cleveland (we already know that answer) Hoyer is legit. First round picks consist of Sammy Watkins and a top corner. We sign Ben Tate and holy shite we have a football team.

.....and Josh Gordon stops smoking pot and is the next Randy Moss

Yeah that's the thing. They are actually set in a few places already. It's just a situation where a few pieces takes you from kind of bad to very competitive. Finding a QB that is just a tad bit above average can make you 3-5 wins better. Surround him with a few pieces/give him protection and that turns into 6-8 wins. Defense wins you 2 more. It's just amazing how this talent thing turns into exponential growth.

Oh and please believe I just picked up Josh Gordon in fantasy and I'm sure that probably jinxed him. But it's so awesome to find these pieces that were already there. Like Gordon and hopefully Hoyer. Kind of like how Josh Cribbs just seemed to emerge out of nowhere and become quite the mascot.
