Dennis Quaid and Ellen Barkin were great together in this movie.

My wife was working in New Orleans while we were engaged back in 1978. I flew down to be with her several different weekends and fell in love with her and New Orleans at the same time. Many familiar scenes in the movie. /sigh

That movie catches a lot of flack, but it was fun. And, despite what anyone tries to argue, it was actually one of the first "modern age" movies that captured the atmosphere of New Orleans pretty well.

And as far as the complaints about Quaid's accent are concerned, the point is that he was a transplanted Cajun in N.O. and had mishmash of accents.

In the linked scene, it's sad to think that those buildings are probably all gone now.

I agree and the truth is most of my favorite movies aren't the Academy Award winners which I guess speaks to my lack taste. But to quote Rhett Butler: Frankly My Dear, I don't give a damn.

Funny thing is that I can be sort of a movie snob.

But I enjoyed The Big Easy.

Yea, I can be also. I'm quick to defend my choices with Emmy recognition, etc. when it suits me.

Being still half asleep this morning I thought you were talking about Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner's "Undercover Blues"

Where was that scene shot? You can see what looks like the lake in the background, but I don't recognize the buildings (even going back pre katrina). At first I thought that might be out where the fishing camps used to be heading east, but some of the other buildings looked too big for that area.

I was thinking from a weird angle in or near the old Bucktown. If not, then out in the Rigolets. Regardless, I'm pretty sure the location has been "washed away".
