That's really impressive considering they don't have a single superstar on that team.

Shouldn't you have won a championship or at least played in one to be considered the "best franchise"? Maybe I just don't know or understand the parameters.

What in the frick
Let's make it out of the West at least once before we crown them this "title".

Not being funny at all. Its the proper response to this ridiculousness.

The magazine each year ranks franchises in the NBA, NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball using such categories as affordability, ownership, stadium experience, fan relations and "bang for the buck," which factors in wins and revenue directly from fans.
The Grizzlies ranked No. 5 in 2012, trailing only the Oklahoma City Thunder, Green Bay Packers, San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers. The Griz were No. 9 in 2011, but as recently as 2010 ranked only 75th. Their rise in the magazine's rankings has followed their rising fortunes on the court -- including a Western Conference Finals appearance last season -- and at the gate.

I have all the respect in the world for the Grizzlies. Put a beat down on my Thunder this year.
But that's just madness.

So, will people actually come to regular season games now?

My family has season tickets for a second year in a row
If you look at the criteria the ranking makes sense

The list is so stupid its not really interesting in any way. They ranked the New Jersey Devils the 12th "best" franchise last year while they were going through bankruptcy and were letting their star player walk to the KHL because they couldn't afford to pay him.
St Louis Cardinals were 10 spots BEHIND the St Louis Blues last year. Its a terrible formula.

Good for you, cuz judging by what it appears on TV, fans only give a shite about playoff games. Which is not indicative of a so-called #1 overall franchise.

Makes sense to me when ranked this way:
quote:
1) Bang For The Buck: Wins during the past three (3) years (regular season plus postseason) per revenues directly from fans, adjusted for league schedules.
2) Fan Relations: Openness and consideration towards fans by players, coaches and management.
3) Ownership: Honesty and loyalty to core players and local community.
4) Affordability: Prices of tickets, parking and concessions.
5) Stadium Experience: Quality of arena and game-day promotions as well as friendliness of environment.
6) Players: Effort on the field and likability off it.
7) Coaching: Strength of on-field leadership.
8) Title Track: Championships already won or expected in the lifetime of current fans.
