Random thought... How is OU settling for mediocrity? They've just been meh for the past few years...

They are paying Stoops a nice sum of cash. Is his seat warming at all?

As they should. With Ut on the verge of getting a new coach, OU may need a breath of fresh air to match their long-time rivals.

2012 10-3, T-1st in Big12, lost Cotton
2011 10-3, T-3rd, won Insight
2010, 12-2, Big12 champs, won Fiesta
2009, 8-5, 4th, won Sun
2008, 12-2, T-1st, lost BCSCG
2007, 11-3, Big12 champs, lost Fiesta
2006, 11-3, Big12 champs, lost Fiesta

so in the last 7 years they've won their conference 4 times and played in the BCS 4 times (including the title game).

With USC and Texas already looking for coaches, I don't know if OU will want to be out on that crowded market this offseason.

I think that's part of the problem for their fanbase right now. Despite Stoops' recent faults he consistently beats the frick out of Texas. That goes a long way with many of them.

The last four years they have definitely taken a step back. Their recruiting quality is also on a downswing.

Talk about being spoiled as frick.

What coach do you suggest we go and get? I'll hang up and listen.

Ok, so they've done good in a mediocre conference, while getting blown out OOC in games vs ND, etc.

They've averaged 3 losses every year since 06. That's not good for a team like OU

Considering you got Stoops as a DC from Florida, there should be plenty of options available if you wanted to breathe some fresh air into your program. As another poster mention, y'all's recruiting lately has blown... Y'all used to be a major player for national recruits, now not so much.

Go get Kirby Smart or something and see if you can find something similar to the early Bob Stoops years again.

The emergence of Okie State, A&M, TCU and Baylor have hurt.

holy shite.

The best win pct in CFB is Michigan sitting at .7344

Since 06 we've had a .7529 win pct. not willing to look it up but that's probably top 10 in CFB.

Obviously the guy isn't perfect but goddamn dude.

They've tried to go more national with varied success. It's not like their current classes are horrible they just aren't as good as they used to be, just like their teams. Stoops set the bar ridiculously high for himself out of the gate.

And to the OU fan in here I'm not saying he should be fired at all. I do know some of y'all's fans (no idea how large or small a percentage it is) seem to be a little unsettled about the situation.

Yeah but OU is nothing without Texas talent. It wasn't long ago when OU was only fighting with UT for the top recruits in the state (Peterson, McFarland, etc.).

I agree. A&M recruiting at a much higher level under Sumlin hasn't helped but it seemed like they started the transition even before that for some reason. I still feel like they could get almost anyone in DFW if they were really aggressive about it.

Your talking to a guy who's part of a fanbase that rips a guy who wins 80% of his games in the nations toughest conference while normally playing a solid OOC schedule

You expect him to be rational?

Bob has a title. It was awhile back but it still goes a long way and he has played in another in recent memory

I'm always amazed by "the grass is always greener" mentality. The fact that UT has to get a new coach because they have been getting owned should make OU thankful for Stoops. Im not even a Stoops fan, but you never know what you're getting in a new HC.

OU plays in a marginal conference and does well in it. However, when they get blown out by teams like ND, etc OOC, I would expect there to be some tension. I would expect OU to be at national title level program status year in and year out. Don't know why an actual fan of the program wouldn't, especially given their history of success. Not saying Bob is a bad coach, but he's known as "Big Game Bob" for a reason and OU has seemed to underperform for the last several years.

Just an outsider looking in and I was curious.
