I really think Jarvis is going to be the Tyrann Mathieu of 2011 (on the field) of this team, and I mean that in the best way possible.

His play is so aggressive and fiery that it sets the tone for the entire offense, if not the whole team, imo. He really reminds me of the way #7 played, only on the offensive side of the ball. It ALMOST makes me wish Jarvis has gotten the #7 jersey, and I'm not even a big fan of the jersey passing trend.

LINK

A few of the highlights of the article:

quote:

All eight of Landry’s catches on Saturday moved the sticks, the last of which went for a 20-yard touchdown on a 3rd and 5. Four of the eight came on third down

quote:

"Defenses don’t know what we’re doing. We mix it up a lot and that kept them on their heels. The whole game we were attacking, attacking, attacking, attacking."

quote:

"A lot of plays we tried to get a mismatch with him on a linebacker, and a lot of times that happened tonight,” said LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

quote:

"This is our bar, and we’re trying to raise the bar every game,” Landry said. "Hopefully we can do a little better each and every game progressing through the season.”

I remember jersey #18. I didn't know that jersey #7 was a big deal like 18.

Well, it really isn't. Patrick Peterson, obviously a legend at LSU from 2008-2010, personally asked Tyrann Mathieu, who wore #14 in 2010 as a freshman, to take on his #7 jersey when he left for the NFL.

Given all of the success that Mathieu had in 2011, there has been chatter among fans that perhaps the #7 jersey would become a tradition the way #18 did when Matt Mauck handed his number down to Tiger legend Jacob Hester to such success.

Mathieu's controversial exit from BR has left that idea unexplored though, and #7 has been unworn for the 2012 and 2013 season.

I only really mentioned the #7 because of Jarvis' potential to be the inspirational fire of this team the way Peterson always was in his time at LSU and Mathieu certainly was in 2011.

He has that same intensity and obviously his impact on the field is worthy of carrying on the legacy of those guys.

7 is also a big deal because it's the number sold and worn by fans.

Is that really the only jersey # they sell? I'm not a jersey guy so I honestly don't know

Exactly. I kind of fear for the safety of DBs that wander into his path when he's blocking downfield.

And he attacks the ball when it thrown his way. He was assaulted on that last TD catch and just shrugged it off while snagging the ball off his hip on his way to the end zone. Monster.

I hear ya man. That wasn't the point of my post.

Just thought it showed how I think Jarvis is perfect to be the emotional leader of this team the way TM was in 2011.

Not saying he should actually change his number. Just love the tone he sets on the field. His interview shows he really gets the big picture too. He knows how special this season could be, but also how hard they're going to have to work.

Jarvis Landry gets it....bigtime.

would like to see LSU put up 100pts in the next two games. we hung 37 on a very good d last week but we need to develop another deep threat, a reliable target at TE and we have to finish better in the red zone. we accomplish this, the run game will get appreciably better and we will become a real contender.

get better, get ready...get even.

My scenario would be to lead the Tigers to back to back MNCs and have us talking about what new star would wear No. 80. Thanks for your efforts Jarvis.
