Pretty cool as long as you don't expect a whole bunch of accuracy.

I had one for years. It was ok. Fun at times, but really impractical. daytime no use, inside maybe, low light was good.

I've got Crimson Trace on a Ruger SP101 .357 mag. I find it gimmicky.

Didn't you ever learn to never point a gun at something you don't intend to shot?

...oh wait, nevermind.

When using pistols for home defense, don't yall think a laser sight is very important?

If you feel the need for a laser to hit a target that is likely to be no more than 15 ft from you, you need to practice more. Specifically you need to practice raising the gun from an un-holstered position to engage the target and firing instinctively without aiming. IMHO

A laser sight is good for aiming when you can not acquire a natural shooting position. For instance if you are lying on the ground and have an injured arm you would be able to aim without extending your arm, or you could shoot from the hip if you needed. Some believe it would be beneficial to aim while shooting around cover. I contend you still have to expose your head to see the target the laser is on so it does not seem all that smart.

In total darkness in your home you have an advantage. You know your home an a criminal is unlikely to know your home. A laser simply tells them where to return fire. All they have to do is shoot at the little red/green light in the dark.

you are also opposed to a light on the weapon for this reason?

A light will have a blinding effect, which is beneficial but still run that risk to some degree.

No I like a light but with the high output and strobe features of most weapons lights they can be blinding and disorientating for the perp.

Sure, if you don't know how to shoot. In the case you think you need a laser on your pistol, a 12 gauge is your best friend.

You still have to aim a shot gun at normal in home distances

I don't like guide rod lasers because you can't sight them in. Other lasers can be sighted in at least near the point of impact.

I think a laser would be good for a small gun for concealed carry but not much else.

Two benefits to having a laser:

1. Unnatural shooting positions (as BP mentioned)

2. Keeping both eyes open

I've almost gotten to the point of shooting with both eyes open with standard pistol sights but I'm not quite there. But for a defensive scenario when I would prefer to keep my eyes on the TARGET, I imagine it would be beneficial.
