What is the software equivalent of Roku and AppleTV? I read there was a program that is a good aggregator of the free offerings of the interwebz, but I forgot what it was.

XBMC with add-ons from XBMCHub is all you need for anything and everything.

which of the various apps on XBMC do you recommend? I tried to install it on my Android but it didn't take.

I saw XBMC being mentioned in an OT thread, so I searched it here. Doesn't seem like there's much talk about it, sadly.

I'd add SportsDevil for live sports feeds obviously. And also USTVNOW for live feeds of the major networks(if you're not using an antenna).

XBMC has to be one of the best hidden gems out there. Every day I use it and save $100 on cable I wonder how is this program flying sooooo far under the radar.

For me(not very technologically savvy), it's very hard in the sense that if you try to wing it and do it on your own, it could be very difficult.

Luckily, I have a few friends who use it and more importantly, directed me to a couple of websites that made it unbelievably easy. I'm talking 10 minutes or less to set up and be up and ready to go.

Another mistake I made, going against the advice of a friend who is an XBMC expert, I tried to buy one of those pre-loaded SD cards with XBMC on it(I run it through Raspberry Pi), and there were issues with my pre-loaded SD card that messed things up and had me super frustrated to the point of almost giving up after putting hours and hours into it.

As a last resort, I bought a new SD card, and I was set up in 10 minutes. Not sure what the heck was the deal with the SD card that was pre-loaded, but even formatting it didn't help.

I used this site to download an installer for ease of use to get the XBMC on an SD card(since i'm running it through a Raspberry Pi):

Raspbmc Installer

Once that is done successfully and you can fire up XBMC, use this link to set up an XBMC Wizard which you can also read about its usefulness here. Also, if this is your initial XBMC setup, you should be able to start at step 21.

XBMC Hub Wizard

If you can pull off those 2, you'll have an XBMC with a bunch of apps. As you see here in this thread, most guys have pointed out the useful apps and all will already be there except for Mashup. To get Mashup, follow this:

1. System -> File manager -> add source: https://xfinity.xunitytalk.com, name it xfinity

System -> settings -> addons -> install from zip -> xfinity -> repositories -> mash2k3

System -> settings -> addons -> Get add-ons -> all addons by mash 2k3 -> Video addons -> Mashup

You can probably see why I said it's darn near impossible to just wing it unless you're computer savvy, but with instructions, it can be super simple, and you also get an understanding of what you're doing and what each menu is just by doing it.
