We were watching the game and was wondering WTF. 5 mins left down by two scores. 4th and 2. So you decide to punt. Ok. But then they only used 1 of the timeouts and that was after almost 4 mins went by. Did it seem like TCU just gave it up?

I turned to the man next to me and said ""WTF" I certainly don't think GP gave up but I don't understand the coaching logic

Leslie killed Patterson's will to coach.

I was afraid of a fake

Actually, there were a number of drives where we stopped them for 4th and short, and I was scared they'd go for it. I guess Patterson doesn't have the balls Les has.

Because TCU was already in a desperate situation.

They were fairly deep in their own territory and converting a short 4th and 2 was inadequate, they needed two fast scores and didn't have time for an extended drive. One way to do that is punt and hope for a turnover (either on the punt return or the next couple of plays), or at least a quick stop.

It almost worked, remember that LSU was faced with 3rd and long and instead of running it to burn clock completed a gutsy pass to get the 1st. Once that happened the game was basically over anyway and the TO's were useless.

I loved that play call. Twist the knife and close the game out. We would've ran the ball in that situation last year

Les is losing control of the TCU coaching staff.

That would have been a very viable choice too.

But I thought the choice was revealing - it means the coaches believed in the passing game. And why not, given the unexpected success against the TCU secondary all night?

This is no longer a one-dimensional attack.

no they thought they'd get a 3 and out.

I personally would have gone for it and put my fate in my own hands

I texted my bro right after we completed that pass that there was no way Les knew we were planning on throwing the ball there

And will make it easier to run the ball in that situation in future, which is the higher percentage option.
