I could use a feel good story about LSU recruiting. Does football have anything that is close to the story of how Shaq landed in Baton Rouge?

Kevin Faulk.

At the time most of the states top talent went out of state. Kevin Faulk, at the time, was huge.

Y.A. Tittle

Story is that LSU pretty much stole him from Texas.

Came to post this. I think he was actually enrolled and on campus at UT and we changed his mind and he left in the night.

That is a great Chicken Soup for the Wounded Tiger story. Thanks.

I think Harvey Williams has a pretty good story about us stealing him from A&M on signing day

4120- You are right, even though LSU was in his Top 2, it was always believed he would be an Aggie until LSU popped out of his mouth...

We will likely end up with the #1 class this year.

Link?

Reuben Randle made me stressed out. I remember screaming hell yes in the middle of class when he announced. The teacher asked what was that all about. I told her Reuben Randle just committed to LSU. The class started clapping.

I was greater than the teacher that day

Knowing the Randle situation from the inside out it was last minute .

Funny all the people here that stated he was a lock.

It was far from that.

We can thank dmitch for helping there.

yeah didn't we have a juco committed that he refused to play with, guess they were from the same area. From what I remember les withdrew the scholarship to the JUCO in hopes of landing Randle. Too bad that guy never had a great QB/OC situation here.

Who was the guy that signed with LA Tech before fax machines so someone tracked down the post man and ripped up his LOI so he could sign with LSU?

No I think it was Deangelo Benton maybe?

They weren't enemies, deangelo respected Mr. Randle.

I think they all sat down and decided what was best for Benton since he wasn't only staying a year.

I gained a whole new respect for Coach Miles that year.

In more recent years, Sam Montgomery certainly wasn't a lock to sign with the Tigers and he announced on national signing day. Of course, Bower had been an Auburn commitment in last February's signing class until NSD.

But the Harvey Williams recruiting story was one of the best ones I recall.
