And it makes sense. How does he beat Margaret Court 6-1, 6-2 and then lose to BJK 3-6, 4-6, 3-6? Court was #1 in the world. BJK was #2. Something doesn't make sense there.

Probably the most hyped media event in the last 50 years. I remember it like it was yesterday. Seemed like the whole country shut down to watch it.

My disagreement with you here would be because Ali - Frazier l was a legitimate sporting event...and one hell of a fight... while The Battle of the Sexes was just a made for TV event.

I understand that the match generated a lot more respect for the women's game and female athletes, but I always find it funny when I hear someone cite a 29 year old beating a 55 year old as proof that women can play sports just as well as men.

From some of the highlights I saw, sure looked like he was tanking it. Of course he was in his 50's so maybe he was just old and tired.

BJK of course said no way, that she's seen tanking and she would know. What would you expect her to say though?

So what is their evidence that it was rigged?

Personally I think it'd be funny if it was

IIRC Riggs had huge gambling debts to the Mafia.

Wait, Bobby Riggs vs. BJK? How is that a battle of the sexes?

I once saw a documentary on this match and one thing that affected it was Riggs' dismantling of Margaret Court who was the #1 player in the world. As I recall, Riggs went into the Court match in tip-top shape, but because it was so easy, he took King lightly and went into the Battle of the Sexes out of shape. It makes sense that he would take the #2 player lightly after humiliating the #1 player.

Bobby Riggs was a hustler. Why would anyone think he was above betting against himself if the odds were favorable?

An interview with a guy who was privy to it. Riggs had huge gambling debts to the mafia and cooked a scheme where he would beat Margaret Court and lose to BJK.
