Torii Hunter vs Albert Pujols: the fight that happened

Per Scott Miller CBSSports:
Is this the real reason the Angels did try to retain Hunter?
LINK
quote:
Pujols called out [Jered] Weaver for showing up a teammate the night before. Then he turned his attention on Hunter, blaming him for the dugout altercation with [C. J.] Wilson.
What Pujols did not know at the time was that Wilson and Hunter already had made amends, with the pitcher apologizing to the outfielder for overstepping his bounds in the dugout immediately following the game.
“Albert, you’d better get your facts straight,” a seething Hunter told Pujols.
Pujols said something back, and Hunter jumped him for being a bad teammate and pouting all season whenever he failed to get hits in a game, even in games the Angels won … and now he was going to call others out?
“Shut up, Torii,” Pujols snapped.
It was then that Hunter, from across the clubhouse, lost it and charged Pujols. [LaTroy] Hawkins and outfielder Vernon Wells had to restrain him.
The meeting proceeded from there, and when it was over, tempers still heated, Hunter had to be physically held back a second time from going after Pujols, who is described as wanting no part of the fight.
quote:
Miller mentions that Hunter had previously been involved in another clubhouse argument with Twins first baseman Justin Morneau. The outfielder punched Morneau in the jaw, but the two ended up settling their differences and accepting each other as teammates.
(Note: For what it’s worth, a Minnesota writer’s account of the event slightly differs from Miller’s, saying that Hunter threw a punch at Morneau but missed and hit Nick Punto instead.)
Is this the real reason the Angels did try to retain Hunter?

Angels with the two worst contracts in baseball besides A-Rod (Pujols and Hamilton)

Years of steroid abuse....can't control his mood.

I mean, it was a no-brainer that signing either of these guys to long term contracts at this stage in their careers was a huge roll of the dice.
And the Angels signed both. Pretty stupid.

The most astounding thing in the OP is that LaTroy Hawkins is still pitching in the majors

they do have some pretty good ones, too.
But CJ, Josh and Albert are all pretty bad

Hamilton just turned 32 (May) and only signed for 5 years. Most of the time people wouldn't be hating on that type of a contract as he was seeking 8-10 years. He has sucked hardcore and finally started hitting better in August.
Pujols they knew when they signed him that the last few years would be abysmal... They hoped he could produce like his last couple years in St. Louis for probably the first 4 years of that deal and that the Angels would win a WS making it worth it.
I mean hell people don't give the Giants grief over Zito anymore because they won 2 world series in the span even though Zito has one of the worst pitching contracts. I have a feeling Yankees will start getting some over CC if he continues to perform like he did this season.

But when you factor in him lying about his age that deal was way worse

I'm waiting to see if he ever gets busted for this, it gets stated all the time on various baseball message boards.

As far as bad contracts go, my guess is Prince Fielder will end up on that list before his run is over in Detroit.
Lots of money for a guy who carries bad weight and will be well into his declining years before the contract expires.

Yea I mean, I don't blame them really for the Pujols deal, they thought they could get a few years of him at his best, which is one of the greatest hitters of all time. It didn't work out that way, but he could still get healthy and be very good.
As for the Hamilton move... It's pretty telling when the team he was playing for and had invested in his recovery and everything isn't willing to go past a few years on his contract

Didn't Rangers offer a 3 year deal with 3 year club options after that? Angels went 5 years so Hamilton seemed to have chosen the security rather than never knowing. Think Angels offered a bit more money as Rangers topped out at 20 million I believe.

Something a long those lines, allegedly Hamilton promised he'd give the Rangers a chance to match any offer he got, but didn't give them a chance to match the Angels and people were upset. But he probably knew they wouldn't match 5 years
ETA: I think the Rangers came in at like 3 years 15 million with options and incentives for it to go longer if he plays a certain amount, ect... Which was a pretty low ball offer considering, I don't think they really wanted him to stay for what he was gonna cost

Not 5 guaranteed or 25 million a year... Rangers may have gone 4 (with option for 5th) but I think they would have stayed at 20 million as well.
Personally I think if he was still in Arlington his overall numbers would be a lot better across the board.
