New TV time !!! How / where to buy one ???

Looking for:

Plasma (I think)
65"+
Smart TV with apps
3D not neccessary

When looking at them in person at Best Buy, the Panasonics and LGs looked to have the clearest picture to me. So, I'm just trying to educate myself before buying. Ideas, experiences? did a search and didn't see any threads specific to these tvs...

Other than Best Buy and CNet, does anyone have other review websites or better places to purchase? Thanks in advance !!!

Tiger Direct or Amazon.com are your best choices of price and selection.

If you are the type that needs to go look at the television before you buy - Sam's or Best Buy.

I recently picked up 65" P65S60 for $1263 shipped, no tax.

S60 has better black levels than last year's acclaimed flagship P65VT50 ($3,700 MSRP)

almost perfect color accuracy and nigh Kuro-grade black levels

The P60S60 tested with deeper blacks than Samsung's flagship plasma from 2012 (our best of year, the E8000), Panasonic's own flagship plasma (the VT50) from last year, and Sony's 2012 flagship LCD (the HX950). Needless to say, this is very impressive, especially when you consider that those televisions cost between two and four times as much as the 60-inch S60.

The S60's total, natural contrast ratio is over 9000:1, which is absolutely huge for a lower-end TV with no extra processing or dynamic settings active.

This TV is dark, sporting black levels comparable to the Batman bathing in an ink-filled tub inside of a black hole. On top of that, its color gamut was basically a carbon copy of the rec. 709 ideal.

cnet saying S60 has better black levels than last year's ST50 as well.

I've always loved TVs. I've owned Sony Trinitron in the 90's, Samsung DLP in 2005-2006, Samsung LCD since 2008, etc. This is my first Plasma and the picture is STUNNING. I don't think I can ever go back to LCD.

65ST60 received the first 5* on cnet and has better PQ. but is it $1000+ better?

If you're going with plasma, its gotta be a Panasonic and nothing else comes close.

Panasonic Plasma is the only answer.

Best Buy has some great deals, they had a Samsung Plasma last week for $100 cheaper than Tiger Direct and $50 cheaper than Amazon.

I'd go with Samsung.

Certainly not meant as such.

Some people like to buy cars only after they've test driven the actual car (which is me).

Others know a particular make/model so well, they can put a deposit on the car or even buy it from thousands of miles away.

Each method works for each type.

I'm the opposite on televisions - I kind of know what I'm looking for and am comfortable with a particular brand. I read reviews and can decide. Others need to go look at the screen in combat conditions and I completely understand that.

No insult intended.

Oh and for the Panasonic Plasma....depending on the model, it may be back ordered. I wanted the 60st so I went to best buy after two weeks of them saying they couldn't get any and that they would randomly get some in inventory and requested to see their inventory on the computer. They had one available for order in Gulf port. Was worth a drive to the casino for the weekend.
