I'm happy with the choice, although I am pretty surprised even since I heard the buzz about his name being frontrunner for the part. I do think they need to vary it up a little with the age range. The last several Doctors have been fairly young and it gives the show a little weight to it.
I was actually hoping for Andrew Potts from Primeval or Damian Moloney from Being Human.

I'm very pleased. I wanted an older, tougher guy after Smith and Tennant. Think he will be a bit angrier and darker too. He was really good in Torchwood. He's a longtime fan of the show, and his role in "The Thick of It" means that people will have the raw material to make some bitching mash-ups
