Yes, but aren't the Yanks on the hook through 2017? Still a lot of wasted money for those years.

They'll let him serve his suspension (they won't pay him anyway) then cut him.

What evidence do they have on ARod that they didnt have on Braun? or what is different about the two cases?

werent there rumors of arod trying to buy the evidence to destroy it, hiring lawyers for all relevant parties and some other stuff where as braun simply appealed his case last year and took what was coming this year?

Well no shite but not the full amount and definitely not as much as they would have if he wasn't suspended.

Owed 114 million left (counting this season) if he is suspended last 65 of this season and all of next Yankees would save about 40 million. Still owing him a good deal but way his contract is set up last 3 years is like 21 million a year. Plus it isn't my money so not really bothered by it.

2015- 21 million
2016- 20 million
2017- 20 million

Is what they would owe him left

So 60+ million to a 40 year old whose body is breaking down and hasn't played in about 3 years. Sounds like a good deal.

I get that, but I'm sure the Yankees aren't thrilled about it.

No not thrilled, but Yankees knew it was going to bad on tail end when they signed him. They just hoped on tail end he was chasing record which won't happen.
I still think he and the Yankees reach some type of buyout and he just goes away. Hell I could see him getting busted once he returns as well, he doesn't come off as the brightest crayon in the box.

did you miss where he tried to buy the evidence and destroy it but ended up only getting a copy, not the originals?

I just don't get whey they signed the deal. When A Rod walked away from his prior Yankees contract to renegotiate the smart thing for them to do would have been to laugh and just let him go period.

I'm frustrated by how stupid the whole thing seems from top to bottom

Didn't they sign the new deal with YES right after signing AROD to his new deal, both with the obvious hope that at the end of his deal he would be chasing the home run record?

I think you're right that the deal was signed with the idea they could market him as the home run king (FWIW I think he signed his new deal back in 2007 after his third and last MVP season/great season as a Yankee)

Another thing, I think there was a part of his contract that was to give him a 6 million bonus for each milestone he passed on the home run list: Willie Mays (660), Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755) and Bonds, and breaking Bonds' major league record. Right now he's sitting on 647 home runs... so he probably wants to scrape out another 14 home runs in the next 100 odd games he's going to play for that payout

I hope he fights it and trys to force the Yanks to let him play this year. The bullshite with the yanks doctors trying to say he is injured has rubbed me the wrong way.

Also I believe if he does not play, the Yankees get insurance money to offset the loss of what they have to pay him to an extent.

Cashman didn't want to sign him, Hal stepped in and over ruled him (a move similar to house his dad ran team) Yankees only bid against themselves and they counted on ARod breaking records. Yankees didn't know about steroid use since he signed the 10 year 275 million contract in 07 and then admitted to steroid use in 09. At least they won a run with him....

the suspension would be the remainder of 2013 and all of 2014. If he chooses to appeal or refuse it could then lead to a lifetime ban

GOOD get that FRICKING cheater OUTTA HERE............ He had a chance to be an ALL-TIME great but had to cheat. Just like Bonds.................

A-Rod is one of my top 10 least favorite players of all-time but what they are doing to him just is not right.

Who concocts these absolutely abysmal contracts such as A-Rods and the Angels with Pujols? How can they even remotely seem like a good return on the investment?

If the Yankees get away with this watch Pujols text positive for juice sometime in the next year. I mean why wouldn't a team slip steroids into a players body if it could get them out of a terrible contract and save them a few hundred mil? It would be SO easy. Team doctors are always giving them shots, the team is always feeding them etc. As a matter of fact I should contact some of these teams and be a "contract fixer", I could fox the problem with the player and they give me 10% of what they saved. Win-win!
