Seasons 1-4 are on Netflix.

We just started Season 4.

Anyone know when 5 will get to Netflix?

Doesn't matter. By the time you're done with 4 you wont be able to wait so you're just gonna go buy it anyway.

This is going to sound terrible, but I've eliminated Fringe because of Abrams.

Does that make me a "book burner" like my office neighbor suggests?

It really does look like something I'd enjoy, but the little bit of Lost I watched was terrible. And everyone knows how I feel about his feature films.

I've literally hated everything I've seen him do - Armageddon wasn't even saved by the wonderful acting (although I actually blame Bay more than Abrams - the script was probably salvagable by a real film director, not a special effects coordinator). I can't take the chance.

Maybe it's better this way - I can think it might be good, but not ruin it by watching. That way everybody is happy.

It might not be as risky as I think - I have some expectations because of the content and reviews, but that is tempered by lowered expectations because of my dislike for Abrams.

Heck, I'm messing up enough threads - ya'll go back to the Abrams fanfest. Sorry for speaking out of turn. The only reason it caught my eye is I was just thinking about Fringe.

I didn't even know he did that show, I don't pay attention to that stuff. I'm not a fan of Lost either. I just know if I like a show or not. Fringe is good. BSG is the GOAT.

No. I need to but it's tough to invest the time with two little ones. When I get into a good show I'm pretty much useless until I finish it. I watched BSG, Dexter, Weeds, and Fringe all on my last deployment. Might have to wait for the next one before I can really get into some new ones. I've never seen The Shield, Mad Men, or Breaking Bad and everyone raves about them.

Wow. You may be rethinking that BSG thing after you watch those three - those are definitely top 10 and perhaps 3 of my top 5 (depending on the day). I also like Hill Street Blues, which is old school, but really the grandfather of all these great, newer dramas.

Was going to tell you to see my Fringe thread but I see I have spoilers right out the gate.

I am a convert. Hated it when it first came out. Hated John Noble. I went from hating John Noble when the show first came out, to being so unbelievably pissed that the Emmy Asshats refused to give credit to Sci-Fi shows. Absolute travesty that Noble never even received a nom. Seriously. The guy is a fantastic actor.

Your over the top hatred of the Star Trek movies does border on the irrational. I don't see any difference between the action / plots from either generation of movies. I never understood that The Onion bit about the first movie.

Regardless of Trek. If you like Sci-Fi, Fringe simply can't be set aside.

It's not over the top. Set aside the "plot" for a second - I liked the characters from TOS. I did not like the characters (at all, even a little bit) in the Abrams movie - isn't that enough to discontinue? Don't agree with it - that's your right, but don't try to dismiss my criticism of it as some kind of irrational, emotionally based response. I do not enjoy the "modern" filmmaking style.

Does that mean I do not like action movies? No. I really enjoyed The Avengers and liked (not loved) Man of Steel.

I have criticisms of Star Trek V and VI, for that matter, and that included TOS cast members directing the last films that had the TOS crew together.

The Coens are my second fave director (after Ridley) and I still haven't seen True Grit - I enjoyed the original movie and am hesitant.

I'm hesitant to watch Fringe because of Abrams, honestly.

I'll take it under advisement.

the shield was good but not top 5 worthy imo. mad men is meh and breaking bad is severely overrated. none of them came close to BSG for me
