I am looking to put a motor on the back of my 1546 Xpress duck boat. We use this boat to access our land, as well as duck hunt, but either way it hauls some heavy loads. I want the power to be able to plane off with these loads. My question is 4 stroke or 2 stroke. I thought 4 stroke was out of the question, but it's only 8 lbs heavier than a 40 2 stroke.

Choirboy has a 40 Etech tiller handle on a 15' Weldbilt and he loves it. It will flat out haul arse when it needs to. He's had it for several years with no issues that i'm aware of. I'm sure he'll chime in later when he gets back in.

Also take a look at Tohatsu Outboards, at work we used the 25hp and 35hp with trim and tilt on our 16ft work skiffs.

The replies you've gotten so far are spot on IMO.

I have ETECh but got it from a dude getting a divorce for a steal. If I was buying new I wouldn't rule out Yamaha. Tohatsu. ETECh. Or Suzuki.

Sorry Mecury guys I've never been a fan.
