It has been a long time, and while I don't favor Kevin Costner as the best actor on the planet, he seems to have been the best person to place this part (in my opinion). It even holds up well for its age (1989). Have any of you seen it recently?

Watched it a few weeks ago. Really captures the magic of baseball.
Probably my favorite baseball movie.

I really am not trying to be an a-hole but I really don't know how people like this movie. I saw it twice in high school during English class and I thought it was incredibly cheesy beyond enjoyment. Maybe I just didn't pick up on a lot of the symbolism but I just didn't like it

Haha no attacks, just opinions. I never really thought much of the movie when I was a little kid and saw it, but now that my dad is getting older, it got to me today. Maybe it's just a matter of where you are in life that makes it more powerful.

Great stuff, Tom. It also helps if you like baseball. It makes me think about being a kid, when I lived for baseball. Probably why I enjoy the Sandlot so much too.

BTW, Walmart has the Sandlot 20th anniversary edition bluray/DVD for $9.99.

Sandlot is great.

F.O.D. is a all time sports classic movie.

Doubt I would have liked it much at that age. Was 30 years old when it came out so I got it from day one.

And Matigan is irritating but Burt Lancaster being in it was really cool.

Honestly, the guy has killed it in three baseball movies.

Field of Dreams
Bull Durham
For Love of the Game

Each one seems to capture parts of what those of us who love the game find precious about it...and a lot of that is how Costner portrays those parts. Agreed...he's not the most rangey actor, but his sweet spot (pun intended) seems to be that guy.

I think his acting can sometimes look forced and not natural. Almost like speaking in monotone.

when Ray goes to Boston and meets Terrance Mann, yeah, love that scene

I've always been a fan of the James Earl Jones dialogue in that movie.

but I guess you could say that with any of his movies... he's got a good voice.
