NISH Football 1979 Question...

I remember running onto the field (easy now, I was eleven) after a New Iberia Senior High football game and meeting the quarterback - his last name was Joseph, but I've forgotten his first name. I think Johnny Hector may have been the tailback that year. Does anyone remember the quarterback's first name? I recall thinking that he was good; did he ever play college ball? Thanks in advance.

There was Kerry Joseph who finished in 1991 who went on to play at McNeese and then the CFL. Not the same time period obviously though.

Probably the wrong board.
I know someone that may be able to help you though.

That actually may have been Mitch Joseph's dad
the timing seems right

Gary Joseph. Played baseball for LSU.

Are you sure? I remember the name Alfred Joseph. But that was long after I left NI.

With a player like Johnny Hector it would be easy to forget everybody else on the team ..I watched him play Laf. High that year and that dude was a man amongst boys.

It was Gary. My source confirms.

I think his senior year was 1978 actually.
They were eliminated from the state playoffs by Lee HS (Mike Dellacano, Al Richardson, Eugene Daniels et al)

Correct answer. He was my teammate at LSU.

You are correct, but that would make '78 his senior football season. No?

Thanks, gentlemen. It was just a walk down memory lane, but I remember that we knew his name and followed the high school players to some degree. Just wondered if he played anywhere. I think it was the year after Johnny Hector graduated. Thanks again.

Gary's son starred as the QB at NISH just a few seasons ago. His daughter attends LSU School of Dentistry.
How's the east coast treating you, Semp?

James "Poo" Alexis was the TB. Johnny was the '78 team.

Wahoocs - well, I've acclimated to actually having a winter to such a degree that, although I miss the people, the food, the culture, I do not miss not actually having a winter! I am well. Is this the guy whose birthday is 3/2?

My birthday was too easy. Lol
Just told my dad about this, we're sitting at the camp at Four Point.
We really had it good back then. My kids are more priveleged, but they can't have what we did with all this damn technology.
We need to catch up, and I still have your baseball cards. Lol

Yeah, good times. You were the reason I was on the field at a NISH football game in the first place! How did you possibly infer that it was I? Pretty good. I tell my students, though, that the "smartest" person I've ever met was a young man who moved to my town from Houston back in the third grade. Good times, indeed. I'd love to catch up.
