Passed by last night for the first time. Awful beer selection, and there's nothing on draft.

I understand what they're going for - specialty drinks for the ladies and classy men. I really get it, and I'm a big fan of Olive or Twist that's succeeding with that goal.

Huey's is downtown, though, and (unlike Olive or Twist) I won't be going to Huey's for a girl's night out. I would be going with a bunch of girls to meet guys.

IMO, Huey's has a different crowd to please, and they have the opportunity to be that one bar downtown that serves all of the local brews in one place along with great specialty drinks. I would love that because guys (who, especially now, are getting into this popular micro brew trend) would be more willing to go. And, at the same time they're drinking awesome local brews, I could be drinking my favorite gin fizz.

Seems like a win, win to me. I really hope they get drafts!

Well the same people recently announced that they were opening a beer bar called The Draft House by the end of the year. I think it is supposed to be real close to Huey's.

How bad was the beer selection? Only BMC?

They had bottled Canebrake, Abita Strawberry, and maybe Abita Amber. Nothing impressive enough to even make my SO want to stay.

I didn't hear about Draft House. Personally, I would rather the two be together. I see Draft House being a more successful venture at this point.

Went last friday and it was packed. Took a while to get a drink but I'm sure the bartenders were still getting accustomed to their surroundings and working behind such a small bar. Good space but might need more seating if they can fit it. They were having A/C problems and with so many people it was just uncomfortable. They'll get through the growing pains but I agree about the draft situation.

Sup?

The beer issue is a little upsetting to me. But typically, if I'm going downtown, I'm not looking to drink craft beers. Which I love btw. I'll go to bulldog or pelican house or any other good place in BR.
Usually when I'm downtown I'm drinking bourbon or whiskey. So I like the idea of having these specialty drinks.

Agreed - but I would love to have something with good draft beers AND specialty drinks downtown, and I kind of thought Huey's would do that.

If they didn't plan on it, I probably would've gone with a more feminine name to get more of the girls night crowd there.

For some reason, I hate the name. It just SOUNDS like a bar that wouldn't last

I haven't had the chance to check it out. I went to 3rd Street Pub a while back and it was basically Punchers with a longer bar.

I agree about the craft beer. The beers that Olive or Twist offers are actually good beers, so even though they aren't a "beer bar", a beer drinker can be satisfied. Huey's should do the same.

The problem is why isn't there a single fricking bar downtown with a good craft beer selection? Not one. But there are a half dozen douchebag bars.

Yeah, disappointed that 3rd street pub came in here and asked for our draft selections(think around 24 or 25) a month or two ago, then just went and put the Mockler All-Stars on tap

Hopefully this Draft House place or whatever by the Coca-Cola sign will be legit. With a name like that, it better be.

Haven't been there yet, but I've heard it's basically Punchers with a new name. Yay.
