As I look on websites for the best handheld spotlight for my boat (for spotting crap in the water at night, frogging, etc), I see a whole bunch of garbage and hundreds of different types.

I would like it to be waterproof (maybe even float), rechargeable and have the ability to charge from home or on cigarette lighter onboard the boat. I am unsure if I want LED, Xenon or whatever else.

Any opinions on which one is the best, OB? Thanks.

Will cost you alot. A seal beam is about as good as you can do. Night lite has some sweet headlights.

For max brightness you need alligator clamps and a 12v battery

The battery life isn't worth a damn. I recommend a 12v light.

I use the Brinkmann MAXFIRE DUAL XENON RECHARGEABLE SPOTLIGHT. It's around $30. portable and rechargeable in truck or home. I've been using mine for about 6-7 years and never had a problem. I think I got my money out of it for $30!!

I've had a dozen or so rechargeable lights in the past, and the one I have now is by far the best.

The older ones would burn out after 30 min (max) and never last. I've had this one a year and it still lasts for 8-10 hrs of constant shining between charges. Had it in the boat last week alongside a 12v Go-Devil headlight and the brightness was nearly identical. My children use it all the time and end up leaving it on under their beds until it dies sometime. A night on the charger and it is back to business. I'd recommend it.

A stinger will work but its $300. I have one and its great but not worth $300

MoreOrLes - the mounted light looks cool but will it give off the lumens needed for general boating, froggin at night?

I doubt it
But for 35 bucks it may be worth it as a flash light
