I got a deer lease this year for the first time. I am an avid duck hunter, but decided to take up deer hunting as well. I just purchased a Moultrie trail camera and went set it out by my stand facing a Salt block (Deer cocaine to be exact).

My question to the OB. I know deer don't eat much when it is hot, but is there something else I can put out there at this time?

Thanks for any info and hopefully this investment doesn't come back to bite me in the arse hole

The duck hunting is going to be so good this year you will never set foot on the deer lease.

Rice bran is the meal of choice in NWLA right now.

Rice bran
Somebody else told me this as well. Might have to go dump some this week. Anyone know where I can find rice bran in the Avoyelles Parish or Alexandria area?

Any feed store or co-op should have rice bran.

Fairly cheap to put out too. Dont fall for all the bullshite "flavored" rice bran at the higher price. Standard works fine.

If you have hogs, it will be gone within hours (as with anything else on the ground though). If you dont know if you have hogs, you will find out soon.

and I didn't kill shite.

Literally. I targeted ducks once during regular season. Geese every other time.

Teal season was marginal.

Cowpeas or soybeans. But plant it NOW. Or just keep tossing corn out there and plant a clover/rye mix in early September which is what I'd recommend.
