I want to go play somewhere cheap and decent this afternoon. Is this a good idea? Also, do I actually need to book a tee time here, or just show up and play? I know that might sound like a stupid question, but I'm really not sure what time I'll be able to make it out.

Friday in the the summer time. I would wager that after 2pm there will be at least 3 groups waiting to tee off on one.

I concur, but I can just imagine how it will be today. Tom, Dick, and Harry got drunk on the porch at Fred's last night and a conversation went something like this.
"Dude, brah, man, lets go play golf tomorrow when we wake up!"

And all of these asshats will be stacked up on the first tee at 2pm talking about the pussy they should have gotten last night.
