Why has this not been done?
Seems like a no brainer to me.
Is there a way we can request it or put an idea in someone's mind?

Until then I can just watch "The Pistol" on Netflix
ETA: I had no idea that Boots Garland played the coach in that movie. The only other time I have seen him is on the BR Today show that used to come on channel 21 with he and Charles Hannigriff

What would be the angle? How he changed basketball happened before the ESPN era.

Pistol Pete dominated before the 30 year window started. Late 60s/early 70s. I guess his pro career carried over into the ESPN era, but his prime was before.

yea but they have long been done with the 30 for 30 series, they just kept the title because of the brand recognition.
They specialize is more niche events, I don't think they have done a bio series on anyone as popular or well known as pete.

They actually did a bio on Pistol Pete quite some time ago. I've searched several times on Youtube but cannot find it. It was part of a series of elite players and I think it was a 30 minute or an hour long show. Interviewed his brother and showed film clips.
If anyone knows how to get this video I wish that they would share.
EDIT The Maravich show was part of ESPN's Sports Century series

The 30 for 30 series was originally designed to be about big sports stories that happened during the 30 years ESPN has been on the air (since 1979, more than 30 years now but whatever).
Pistol played most of his career before then (retired 1980). Pistol was just not an "ESPN era" story, and the point of the series is to highlight stories from the ESPN era.

But have they done any episodes about stories before 1979? I'm not sure they have.

I guess Ghosts of Mississippi was.
