What are some of your favorite songs that remind you of the greatest country in the world? I'm not talking about the garbage that Toby Keith spews out on every album (man, is that just a little melodramatic, or what?), I'm referring to those songs that you hear that warm your heart.. or strike the right nerve.. or even bring a tear to your eye.
I'd have to go with the classic, Lee Greenwood - God Bless the USA

I can't think of patriotic American music without thinking of John Philip Sousa's marches:
My favorite:
"Star and Stripes Forever"
A close second:
"Semper Fidelis"
And while I am not a fan of the paper, this march is moving:
"The Washington Post"
Happy Independence Day to all!

Lots of country going to come up in this song.
I always blast: American Badass
Grateful Dead - US Blues
"Wave that flag, wave it wide and high"

The first part of the video is a short film I found called “200.” It was made to be some sort of trippy propaganda in 1975 and was put out by the US Gov’t Information Agency for the bicentennial.

A beautiful song whose lyrics were written during one of the darkest times of American History.

The Drifters - "Only In America" (1963)
This is a censored version of the song, which was originally (lyrics by Barry Mann) a protest:
Only in America,
land of opportunity,
can they save a seat
in the back of the bus just for me.
Only in America,
Where they preach the Golden Rule,
will they start to march
when my kids go to school.
The lyrics were rewritten by Jerry Leiber:
Only in America
Can a guy from anywhere
Go to sleep a pauper
and wake up a millionaire
Only in America
Can a kid without a cent
Get a break and maybe
grow up to be President
But record company executives decided this was just as bad -- a black man grow up to be president? Preposterous!
So the Drifters' voices were removed from the tape and another group was overdubbed onto the same instrumental track.

Not sure that this is on topic, but "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" is playing in the background. I remember when this came out in 1973. It's still true today.
