He just bought a 2nd home on Lake Catherine and this was my house warming gift to for them...

I could have gone the easy route and gerry rigged a 12v livewell or bilge pump...but I wanted to do it right...this will run forever and runs on 120v ac...He has multiple fishing lights at the end of a 300' pier and electrical outlets are available for this setup as are many other camps on the water...

I started with a 54 qt. igloo marine chest(yeti story to come) and a 3/4 h.p. stainless dirty water pump w/float valve some white marine epoxy an assortment of PVC fittings, a valve, stainless hose clamps, braided clear hose and some off the shelf igloo parts...tools? a 5/16 nut driver, sawzall and a drill...

here are some pics of the finished product...

Plug it in and drop it off the pier and the float switch cranks it right up

not shown is the nylon cutting board used to separate it into two chambers...1 for shrimp...the other for croakers or a couple fish you want to keep alive

water flow regulating valve and drains to allow the water flowing through the well to drain off...

looks professional...works professional...

His neighbors saw it and liked it so much that I now have 3 orders for them and 1 is for some baller wanting me to do a Yeti... I know... :CSB:

Looks good Pepp! May be consulting your services when I re-do the back deck on my boat. Planning on ripping out the old deck and creating an extended back deck with a built in cooler/fish box and a separate live well.

Definitely achieved the professional look! Very nice. Question - why separate the shrimp and cochaho's or croakers? I only have one live well in my bay boat and have been combining. First year fishing with it but have not had any problems so far. What is the theory behind seperating? Thanks for sharing.

Rectangle is not a good shape for a bait well. Looks spiffy though.

Oh really? As far as I remember, other than an flow troll, I've never used any other shape for a bait well. I've never had a single problem, ever.

Granted the corners have been rounded.

Yes really. There is a reason bait wells on boats and after markets have curves. Just like bait tanks. But okay.

ETA: Rectangles don't have rounded corners. The corners in that ice chest will allow bait to pile up.

You said they had rounded corners. Im sure al lot more round than an ice chest. So they aren't rectangles.

I have no need or desire to argue with you.

Actually, they aren't much more rounded than the ice chest pictured.

Rectangle is fine for everything but pogeys. They pile in and beat their heads in the corners. But shorterms its fine.

Oh, an nice job by the way. We have similar setup on our dock, only we made it out of a finerglass dock box. We dont have 300' of dock to walk down though. 1/2-3/4 hp works great for our large box. Wonder if its too much for an ice chest size. I know u have the regulator valve, but could that cause more stress on the motor? Just an observation.

Thanks for the kudos everyone...its kept.live shrimp.and croakers for several days now withou issue...

My father in law is a retired refrigeration A/C guy and explained loads on motors and such and this won't harm it at all...for.the others I'm building I'm using a 1/2 hp...

And yes for the guy that asked...I'm building one of his neighbors a Yeti

If he's fishing off of a pier why not drop a basket or like what I have, an expanded aluminum cage?
