As a Diehard Cubs fan, I detested Marmol as much as the next guy. That being said, this was just shitty, he didn't deserve that treatment.

I really loved him at first, he was my favorite reliever.

It was part of the deal for him to accept the assignment and work with the coaches there for about a month and be called back up to be a 6-7 inning guy....which IMO he will real good at

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers placed Carlos Marmol on outright waivers.

In other words, Marmol was designated for assignment, as Peter Gammons initially reported. It's just a procedural move, as he has already agreed to a minor league assignment. ESPN's Keith Law was the first to report that the Dodgers intended to send him to the minor leagues.

If he can develop any semblance of control, he'd probably be good anywhere in relief.

This. If he could command his fastball at all, his slider becomes very difficult to hit. There were points during his tenure with CHC, where he would just throw the slider because he could only locate the backstop or the dirt with his fastball.

Strictly procedural. Had to happen for him to report to minors, as was previously reported.

One thing was always for sure when Marmol took the mound:

It would be entertaining.

Now whether it was entertaining because hitters wildly swung and missed his nasty stuff or because he'd walk 3 guys then strikeout the next three, or completely blow a game, was the major question.

I'd go with interesting. Not sure how entertaining it is to watch your hopelessly erratic closer ruin yet another solid outing by the starter.

At least he didn't balk in a run like Shawn Camp.

Naturally. Even though he struggled quite a bit. He was pretty professional about it. He always just kept going out there and trying to fix it. Worked wherever the manager told him to. Most guys who had the success he had probably would've bitched a lot more when asked to come in the 6th and work. Best of luck to him.
