For fun, I won't give you the name of each player. One of these players might be obvious to some, though.

.263 AVG
.805 OPS
12 HR
40 RBI
PLAYER 2
286 AB
.252 AVG
.820 OPS

B bc of .OPS, batting average is overrated is you're still getting on base

Justin upton and Marlon Byrd?
Really
Really

I could have included their salaries, but that would have made it too obvious (not that it wasn't obvious already).
But the point remains... Upton has been pure shite since his hot streak at the beginning of the season, but no one seems to mention it.

Bc we're still in first place

he'll get back on a hot streak again, then a slump, repeating. it's baseball. that's why most stats are averages
Posted on 7/2/13 at 9:02 pm to GatorsGators
player 2 is at 38 RBI now FWIW

Other than his average, Upton's stats aren't too far off his career averages.
He's a solid player but nowhere near the player most make him out to be (especially considering he's at-best an average defender).

Considering that Byrd's first half is almost undoubtedly a fluke, I agree. But they've been similarly productive so far this season.
Posted on 7/2/13 at 9:08 pm to GatorsGators
I can agree with both points.
but law of averages show JUpton will continue on his pace, while Byrd will go down

.313 OBP vs .355 OBP
Upton has been much more productive

.491 SLG vs. .458 SLG
Byrd is also a much better fielder. For the WAR guys, Byrd's WAR so far this season is 1.6 vs. Upton's 1.4 (fangraphs).
Again... It's almost definitely a fluke on Byrd's part, but Upton isn't the player most make him out to be.
