Obviously as back up this year but looking forward to next couple years? I have read nibbles here and there but have caught a good thread on it with some guys that know.

Thx.

Everybody seems to think Jennings is ready to make some noise immediately, and Rettig has potential but may need a little time to get his feet under him. And Rivers is being overlooked.

Rivers
~Probable back up going into the season. He's your starer if something happens to Mett. Not much to say about him. Was considered a bit of a project, barring disaster likely never starts a game at LSU. Probably a decent back up though.

Jennings
~True freshman but looked competent in the spring game. He's most likely your starter in 2014. The belief is he'll see some time in 2013 in a complementing role to Mett. Like what we did with Matt Flynn and Perrilloux in 2007. IMO, Jennings sees more playing time than Rivers if all goes well, but if Mett goes down...Rivers is the starter over Jennings.

Rettig
~Probably redshirts in 2013 to create separation from he and Jennings.

Apparently Jennings has already won the '14 and '15 Heismans

Jennings is an intriguing prospect. Very Matt Flynn like with his poise in the pocket and ability to run.

I think we've got reason to be excited for the future. Check out the first 2 plays from Jennings (#10). He makes a quick decision to scramble for the first and then makes an awesome pass right over his receivers shoulder.

Very Nice. Im not saying anything everybody doesnt already know - but if you have a QB that can throw and also bail you out on a quick little 2 and 8 scramble. Its quite a luxury.

Agreed. I know everybody is a bit weary of a running QB after JJ but I think its beneficial in a college QB to at least have the ability to move his feet and keep a play alive. We saw last year the disadvantage of having a QB that can't move around.

I will agree to a point....what I mean is if Jennings gets playing time this year that tells me he will probably start 2014....but if the coaches think rivers has a chance to start, i say redshirt Jennings....jmo

Jennings is the real deal, bro. As hoohoo said, Rettig will probably redshirt. He's very talented but Jennings is there right now and Rettig is getting there.

For those of you who don't know any better, Jennings is not a scrambler just bc he has escapability. He's a throw first QB who has the ABILITY to get away if he needs to. as someone mentioned, matt Flynn esq. A lot of people, not just LSU fans, see a Black QB and think he's Michael Vick. This kid can throw and does it well.

With two Freshman QB's there's no sense redshirting both. The #2 guy will transfer.

River had a very good spring game. I think he will battle next year and win the starting spot. It would be nice to have a QB battle based off of too much talent opposed to who sucks slightly less.

still think rivers gives us our best shot if mett goes down early. it we are 10 weeks in i could see jennings getting the nod. but then again im not at practice. besides cam likes rivers because he basically has same skill set as mett. so they wont have to change the offense up by bringing in rivers. rettig will red shirt, and bolden may never play, but he has more experience than any if the current back uos and could be good to have fir a jyst in case scenario.

lets not forget, 2006 and 2003 might be the only seasons under saban and miles that we didnt need to use a 2nd qb due to shitty play or injuries.

Good insight - that clip is all I have seen so I thought he ran a little more. But a guy that stays in pocket and can also hit a lane if it develops on an extended play is awesome.

Is he faster than Flynn? Not because of color - I am just curious. He seemed like he ran that scramble kinda controlled - like no biggie - lots more in the tank.

Just talked to B Harris last week. He said he didn't mind competing. It almost sounded like he preferred it. He wants to go toe to toe with Rettig if he's red-shirted.
