Lake Powell, Fla. fishing?

Family vacation in PC... me and wife are staying at Lake P. (east of PC) and have use of a canoe.
Taking a 10 year old fishing and thinking that using live shrimp, with a small steel leader and an egg shaped sliding sinker would probably have the most luck. or should I float them with a bobber? Any thoughts from the OB?
From what I've read is the lake I guess is brackish and will probably have to buy daily salt and fresh permits.
