AT&T forcing "Presidential Alerts" to iPhone Customers

Amber alerts started popping on my Verizon phone a few months ago and I quickly turned them off... I wonder if these Presidential Alerts will be abused...

quote:

AT&T has begun rolling out Wireless Emergency Alerts updates for iPhone 4S and 5, so you won't be the last folks to know if the entire northern hemisphere is about to be covered in ice à la Day After Tomorrow. You'll receive a notification from the carrier when your update is ready, but only if you're using iOS 6.1 or higher. Once installed, AMBER and Emergency alerts are automatically sent to your phone unless you switch them off via Settings. However, should you be tired of Obama, just know that there's no way to switch off Presidential alerts. WEA messages are always free of charge, so you don't have to worry about going over your texting limit when notified that you need to get the hell out of dodge.

Anyone have information on this? Is this a law that was passed and all carriers will have to do this or is this just an AT&T thing?

Are they trying to lose customers?

If this is their choice, then it makes sense because AT&T is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with.

Again, I'm curious as to what constitutes a presidential alert... Don't we already have the EBS?

Seriously, I am curious...

If its going to be the EBS' access to phones, then call it that. But what is the purpose of a Presidential Alert?

So even if I turn off amber and emergency alerts it won't stop POTUS alerts or are they just saying we can't stop him from blowing hot air in general?

these people... Seriously...

quote:

There are three different kinds of alerts:
Presidential Alerts – Alerts issued by the President or a designee;
Imminent Threat Alerts – Alerts that include severe man-made or natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc., where an imminent threat to life or property exists; and
AMBER Alerts– Alerts that meet the U.S. Department of Justice's criteria to help law enforcement search for and locate an abducted child.

What should the President be texting people that doesn't fall under the Imminent Threat Alert???

Congratulations, Obama has granted himself instant access to you whether you like it or not.

You, however, do not have that kind of access to him.

Bow down subjects!
