Sega and Atari eventually went the way of the Dinosaur, and they weren't showing they outright hostility towards consumers that Microsoft is. When gamers shun the XBox1 in droves will that be the end of the XBox series as we know it? I could see Google or Apple joining the fray next time to complete with Sony.

For the reasons you listed? Of course not. Microsoft isn't Sega or Atari. The One could fail miserably (which it won't) and Microsoft would still pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the system without any problems. They're only a multibillion dollar company.

However, this will likely be the last generation for all consoles.

Within 3-4 years, APUs on notebooks will have the processing and graphical capabilities of the One and PS4. In 4-5 years, it will be common for players to stream their games.

"Xbox" and "Playstation" will become services, allowing you access to the latest games and entertainment from any device.

Well I guess that's fair.

I for one will not be purchasing ANY Microsoft products for a good while.

4-5yrs from now, consoles might become "cloud gaming" set top boxes. Ruling out the need for upgrading unless it is for some new implementation in controls or the way you interact. None the less, the need for local processing power will vanish in 8-10yrs from now.

If it is, I don't think anyone would have predicted Nintendo outlasting them in the console arena

He read on Reddit though that MS is evil and only wants to make money.....

Even though Xbox has produced a huge community, is trying dry up the used game market to make games cheaper for people, and are actually trying to push gaming forward instead of just keeping up with the status quo.

It's pretty crazy how bad MS looks to alot of people after their E3 presser. Their entire marketing department should be canned.

I completely agree. Once you get the actual details of their plans it is nothing bad, but they let the hivemind of the internet and Sony shape the narrative.

They had some of the biggest PR fails in such a short time. MS would say the wrong thing or not say nothing at all, leaving communities online to run wild with ideas of an evil MS.

Fckk used games, digital download is the way we are going and it will just push more discounted sales for games after launch.

You console ppl need to join us PCers. Next gen consoles are low budget PC builds currently. You guys wont be missing anything.

Make the move!

They didn't explain the reasoning behind the moves they made with the XBONE which is mind boggling. They just said what it did and moved on. They should have explained why they made the moves and they would have come out a lot better.

Yeah it is hilarious to watch kind of. Just read the comments section of an article that discusses something positive about the Xbox One. They will think it some sort of conspiracy theory or that Microsoft is lying.

Couldn't agree more. A lot of the gaming community is taking the me, me, me approach right now and are unwilling to see what positives the changes will bring.

Yeah, because the things being implemented this gen are for the better and the way we should be going.

They left the online communities to their on devices.

And I really do think they haven't ironed out all the details yet, which is why they are being so vague about a lot of things.

not so concerned about consoles, but rather.....will this be your last posts on the Gaming Board?

Microsoft is one of the richest corporations in the world, they determine their future.
