NYG didn't sign Jacobs to take Wilson's job
The Giants reportedly believe newly signed Brandon Jacobs can "possibly spell" David Wilson "on passing downs and maybe at the goal line."
Note that the veteran running back cattle call the Giants held Tuesday was scheduled before Wilson's nightmarish 2013 debut. Jacobs was brought back to help fill the gap left by Andre Brown (leg) -- not to take Wilson's starting job. A source tells ESPN New York that one of the reasons Jacobs was signed was because of his familiarity with their protection schemes, an area Wilson has struggled in. The two-time Super Bowl champ is also expected to help "mentor" Wilson in other areas. Per ESPN's Dan Graziano, "the odds are that [Jacobs] won't be getting too many touches right away, if ever."

Texans regret not giving Ben Tate more snaps
Coach Gary Kubiak said Tuesday he regrets not giving backup RB Ben Tate more snaps in Week 1.
Starter Arian Foster got 24 touches on 55 snaps, but produced just 90 total yards. Tate was far more effective, turning his 11 touches and 20 snaps into 62 total yards. "I wish it would have come out a little more closer to even. ... I want to keep it somewhat close right now and watch them working to [see] what's going on," Kubiak said. Foster is going to have to raise his level of play to maintain the 70/30 stranglehold he has on this committee. He should find more running lanes in a home game against the Titans Sunday.

Report: Le'Veon Bell is out for another month
A source tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the Steelers are now hoping to get Le'Veon Bell (foot) back in about a month.
So much for optimism that Bell could be back as soon as Week 2. Per the Tribune-Review, Bell has a "rare" mid-foot sprain that's being classified as a Lisfranc injury. It's the kind of ailment that only gets better with rest and sometimes ends in up needing surgery (see Maurice Jones-Drew and Santonio Holmes). We wouldn't expect to see Bell anytime before Week 6 and even that may be optimistic. The Steelers will start Isaac Redman again on Sunday. Jonathan Dwyer will mix in and Felix Jones may get a few change-of-pace snaps.

Coach Chuck Pagano singled out Coby Fleener for his Week 2 performance.
"He played an excellent football game, not only in the pass game but also in the run game," Pagano said. Fleener finished with four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown on eight targets, playing on 83.5 percent of the snaps. Now that Dwayne Allen (hip) is done for the year, Fleener will continue to take on a big role in the passing game. The move tight end is on the back-end TE1 radar.
