i just bought a boat with a motor that has an auto choke. does this mean that i do not have to choke it on the key?

then if the motor won't crank, push it in and it should.

here's the deal. first, i was told that if you have an auto choke, you don't have to push it in.

i unplugged the gas hose to my motor and let all the gas burn out. i hooked it back up, pumped the bubble, and it ran fine. two months later, i pumped the bubble about 10 times (it wouldn't get firm) and pushed the choke. it would run on high throttle but wouldn't hold an idle. i took the cover off and saw that there was gas everywhere. was told that, when i burnt the gas out, the chock got stuck.

now, i'm confused. some say that, if you don't disconnect the gas hose, you never have to pump the bubble because the diaphram will pick it up.

you have a fuel line problem, not an autochoke problem, and remember the fuel line starts inside the gas tank.

This is a text book case of a sticky needle. Your carb is all gummed up ... pull the carb and clean it good. Or find someone who knows how

20hp 4 sroke yamaha

2007

my buddy used it over the weekend and it worked fine. btw, he's the one that told me all the info i posted.

he cleaned the carb before using and told me that the choke needle was stuck. he lubed it and it worked fine.

i just need to know how i should go about cranking everytime i use it. do i need to pump bubble and choke?

or...does the choke kick in on it's on since it's auto

ok.
4 stroke you can run the carb dry and won't hurt the motor.
Still sounds like you have some trash caught in the carb needle seat causing unregulated gas flow into the engine. Matter fact, you better check your oil as well because that gas will flow into the cylinders when the motor isnt running and leak down into the crankcase where the oil is.

As for the choke question,it should not make any difference if you push in the key to start the motor at all. It's not like it's going to make it choke any more than it already is with the auto choke.
