Going down there for a few days and thinking about chartering a trip for me and my 9 yr old. Wouldn't mind going on a meat haul instead of inland where I hear the guides just put you on blues.
Any recommendations or possible things to look for when searching for a service? Really looking for an amberjack, tuna, snapper type trip. Tia

Good luck. My experience there is nothing good compared to La fishing. Always a tourist racket.

Always a tourist racket.

I gave it up after going about five years in a row and trying different people. Now I go by the little GS fresh seafood market and drop $100 and get plenty to grill and boil.

I took my son out with THESE guys a few years back and had a good time.
We did the 8 hour and mainly fished for snapper and grouper on the bottom. Only complaint I had was that it took 2 hours each way to get to our fishing spot. . . I forget how many miles offshore we were, but I know the boat wasn't going anywhere close to speed. On an 8 hour charter, thats half the trip!
That may be part of the "tourist trap" bit though. . . they spend less gas, and hopefully their clients don't know any better!
