I know several people who do it. They generally don't like to discuss it with too many people because they don't pay state and local road taxes.

I very well might be wrong, but I think you get an income tax credit for the road taxes paid. Again, I might be wrong.

Do they have sources such as restuarants where they get their used oil or are they able buy from someone or a company? do the injectors have trouble? (I have an 05 cummins) Can I keep more than 70 gallons in a reserve tank without any problems? I go through about 35 gallons of fuel a week would like to make enough to last me for two or three weeks at a time

Let me see if I can answer a few of these.

Yes, they do. This is actually pretty easy. Most restaurants are more than willing to let you haul it off for free. I have gone to get some after duck hunting one weekend.

No. I am sure they could go into more detail about how to filter the oil, but I have ridden all over south LA with one of them and never had an issue.

This, I can't help you with. I honestly don't see what the issue would be though. I can tell you that my friend kept his fuel in 55 gallon drums and would then pump the fuel into his trucks.

If you get me an email address I will pass it along.

I will be happy to pass it along to both of them. No promises though.

Have you talked to your state rep or state senator? I am sure one of them would be more than happy to help if they can.

Is LSU Ag the only place for the workshops? I thought I remembered seeing one at UNO or Delgado CC. What about around Lafayette?

Very difficult to get from restaurants unless they are in the boon docks. There are companies that pay restaurants for this oil. Hard to get it for free when someone is willing to pay for it, supply a dumpster to store it in, and pick it up on a weekly basis.

Second, most aes use lard which to my knowledge is useless in biodiesel. I have a buddy that is an engineer and he does this. Hasn't paid for diesel in years. He rides around with a 50 gallon drum on the weekends when he goes to get the oil. He also uses plastic 50 gallon drums and not metal.

Good luck.

LSU is only one I know that was still doing a workshop. I wanna say UNO was doing one but not anymore. Might be one done in Lafayette I will google and find out. If your people could help inform me on what they know that would great.

Most restaurants already have a contract with an individual to collect the diesel and have provided a barrel outside. It would be difficult unless you find an area that hasn't already been noticed and the restaurants aren't claimed.

Are you talking about actual biodiesel, or just used vegetable oil from restaurants? There is a difference.

To quote wikipedia:
"Biodiesel refers to a vegetable oil- or animal fat-based diesel fuel consisting of long-chain alkyl (methyl, ethyl, or propyl) esters. Biodiesel is typically made by chemically reacting lipids (e.g., vegetable oil, animal fat (tallow[1][2])) with an alcohol producing fatty acid esters.

Biodiesel is meant to be used in standard diesel engines and is thus distinct from the vegetable and waste oils used to fuel converted diesel engines. Biodiesel can be used alone, or blended with petrodiesel. Biodiesel can also be used as a low carbon alternative to heating oil."
