I think the low ranking suits this team well. Last year they had way too much pressure on them. They'll probably be a home dog vs aTm. Flying under Phil Steele's radar at #17, that's fo sho.

Didn't we open 2011 against Oregon as a top 5 match-up? I think it was #2 vs #3 wasn't it?

#3 vs #4 I believe, but close enough.

Yeah we opened at either 2 or 3 in '1l. This is the first year since '03 I can remember such low expectations. We all know what happened that year.

Still, I'm going with 8-4 -- Ole Miss, Florida, Bama, aTm losses, but a nice, redemptive bowl win.

Yes they did...........

And If you really want to smile, turn on a highlight film of last year and look at all the faces returning.......

All they pundits see is early departures, blinded by the departures is the team that returns the most FRESHMAN experience in the country besides TCU, an OL that will be man crushers, a proven OC, a SR QB, a returning back 4, and a wealth of unproven defensive talent.

Enjoy it Tiger fans, we've always prospered when others said we won't.

Phil Steele sucks. read his "forecast", I don't think he says one thing about what's going to happen this year excpet nobody will give us a chance.

I used to love his magazine, I don't know why....

A redemptive bowl? At 8-4? Not likely.

because he didn't say LSU would go 9-3? or because you didn't have your current set of expectations?

I don't think too much pressure had anything to do with last season. LSU pissed away opportunities at UF (especially in the 1st half), and didn't put Alabama away late when they certainly could have. That's the difference between 12-0 and 10-2.

I hate preseason "rankings." They really should be called preseason "projections". All things being equal I don't think you can say LSU is the 17th best team going into the season. However, if you're looking at their difficult schedule and the players lost on defense, and project that they'll lose 3 games, then I understand the #17 "ranking". I just have issue with putting teams where they start the season based really on where you think they'll finish the season.

I think he may be talking about 2003. We finished 13-1 as well and were not ranked top 10 preseason.

But I don't think that was the last time we weren't top 10 preseason.

Pretty sure we weren't in 2009 and maybe not 2010.

We weren't ranked in the top ten when we faced UWash and I'm fairly sure the UNC/LSU game was a battle between top 15 teams.

Anyways, I can't really get that upset with Steele's rankings. LSU should start the season off between the 11-18th range imo.

Fwiw I have us going 8-4.

I kept hearing 10-2 and 9-3 at my tailgate on saturday.

I also don't buy this whole "flying under the radar" talk and comparing this to the preseason before the '03 season.
